I have copies of old program and user files. These files were just copied (no backup function within Pegasus used) from the disk when it worked some days ago. It was run under XP. As I cannot restore the old disk I need to get Pegasus installed under Windows Vista (which I have completed, and it looks ok both sending/receiving new mails ), but more important How do I get the data from the old installation working on the new PC?
I would like to import old mails and contacts, distribution lists
The old installation looks messy to me as there were both a C:\PMAIL and a c:\PMAIL OLD
For old mails, look for files with the extensions *.pmm and *.pmi. For contacts, look for files with the extensions *.pmr and *.pm!. For distribution lists, look for files with the extension *.pml. Copy those files to your mail folder, typically c:\pmail\mail or c:\pmail\mail\[username]. To make sure which folder to copy the files to, you could search your Vista system for files with the above-mentioned extensions. If Pegasus asks whether you want to overwrite files, I recommend that you make a backup of those files first. As regards contacts, didn't you name the addressbooks when you created them or did you just use Pegasus's standard addressbooks? You might want to create your own addressbooks and name them, as they will be easier to recognise.
Cheers!

Many thanks Steffan,
I am helping out a friend that is not "computer friend" so I do not know the details.
I will start copying the files you have listed. I also found an c:\pmail\mail\pmail.ini file that may explain the strange setup
Working home mailbox location = C:\PMAILOLD\MAIL
New mailbox location = C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN
Distribution lists, *.pml worked fine after copying into the C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN directory
Contacts, *.pmr copied into the MAIL directory and then I can see the the name of the addressbooks, but no users in it
Mails, *.pmr and *.pmi copied. started with C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN without success and then C:\PMAIL\MAIL but still cannot see them in Pegasus.
Will have a look in this forum for similar issues but I am greatful for all kind of feedback.

You forgot the *.pm! files. (The extension includes the exclamation mark.)

It's not *.pmr but *.pmm.
yes I need to check out fot the pm! files and copy them.
Mails *.pmm (pmr was a typo error by me) were copied so I still have a problem there.
Will test more this afternoon

All rightie. I may have overplayed my hand with regard to old mails. Maybe it's not as simple as I suggested, although I just tried it out by copying a set of *.pmm/*.pmi files from one user directory to another user directory with Pegasus closed and when opened again, Pegasus displayed the mails correctly.
