Well, I don't feel quite so much like an idiot now. I can live with a bug AND doing my maximizing  manually. At least it holds its size...

All previous versions of Pmail never gave me this problem, so that added to my puzzlement.

I went thru this about a month or so ago and thought the problem was fixed. I guess not... I am running WindowsXP SP3 and really never had this problem before I installed Pegasus v.4.51 about a month or so ago. Earlier installations never did this.

I have re-sized and re-sized my  windows over and over again but this annoying problem has remained unfixed.

When  I open Pmail, it opens fully opened, edge to edge with no scroll bars visible. I dragged all sides manually so the maximized box at top right is visible.

When I open any window save for "Start a New Mail Message" they all open in a smaller size with the upper-right corner and the 3 choices boxes (minimize, maximize, close) visible. No scroll bars visible in them, either. I hit 'maximize' and the windows open fully. After I shut down and then re-open Pmail later, any window I open (again, save the "start new...") opens in its non-maximized size (like before) until I hit 'maximize'. This seems to all be working fine.

 If I want to send an email and hit the "start new..." window, it opens in a (sorta) maximized size with the right side under a newly-appeared scroll bar which covers the 3 upper-right corner boxes and entire right edge. I drag the window down, manually re-size it to a size about the same as all the other windows open to until I change it.

If I close the write window and re-open it (or close Pmail entirely and re-open) the write window is at the smaller, re-sized size. If I maximize it and write a new email, send it and close, the write window will re-open with the upper-right corner obscured again! None of the other windows does this. They all open in the smaller size I manually set them to. Do I have to re-size the write window manually (center box at top right) to the smaller size every time I send a message? This doesn't seem right nor did  this happen with earlier versions of Pmail.

 Does this make sense? All windows, no scroll bars anywhere, open in the size I set them to except the "write new mail" window. It never holds the re-sized size like the others.

Thanks to anyone who can help with this. We tried and tried a bunch last time and I thought it was fixed but I guess something further needs to be done.

I've quoted the section above because it sounds to me as if you're causing yourself headaches.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but it really sounds as if, when you want to write a new message, you're opening the New Message window (which opens at the smaller size you set it to earlier) then Maximising it (by clicking on the middle of the three icons in the top-right of the window) before you type and send your message. Please don't do that. Set the New Message window to a size you want to work with, and use it at that size.

If you Maximise any window in Pegasus, the whole program goes into Maximised mode, meaning that all windows will default to maximised. When you restore a window, and Pegasus jumps back to "non-maximised mode", you will see the occasional glitch with windows that are bigger than the viewport.

Although there has always been some issues around maximisation in Pegasus, the simple answer to your problems is to decide whether to always maximise or not, and stick with it. Personally, I work in "non-maximised mode" but with my folders and preview window dragged to it's largest possible size in the viewport.

You haven't got a problem with your system, you're just confused by the strange behaviour that still exists in Pegasus in this regard.

Thanks for taking a second shot at my problem! You are correct on all points. What is confusing me is that all other windows, when manually set to a small size, open in that size every time except the write new mail window. I suppose it's this inconsistent behavior that is throwing me off.

I have all windows set to a small size and they open and re-open each time in that size -- except the write window. I can maximize (if necessary) these other windows as needed but they will re-open in the original, small size next time I use them. The new mail window doesn't. OK, you've straightened me out here.

I went back and dragged all sides of the write new mail window to its maximum size without using the upper, right corner box. As it should, it remains in this larger size each time I open the window. I guess I just don't understand why all windows but one hold their sizing. It's the inconsistency that I don't understand and that was causing my "headaches" and not a real "problem"! [:$]
