MercC SMTP not sending

You should stop returning fails for spam.

This is backscatter and most of the time goes back to forged addresses.

It will get you on some blocklists.

Also, bounces should be done at SMTP time and this mail has alredy been accepted via SMTP by your ISP.

Hi All

I've trawled through all the posts, but I missed one somewhere with my problem. My concern is that when I was setting up Merc I used module C and using my ISP mail server specs. I ran a few test messages from the core module and they were received ok.

I setup the rest of the system using  P & D modules and tested with outstanding results. I'm pleased as.

Now to send out error messages using module C. All's well, servicing job M0000004..OK, great, but no, the messages disappear into the black hole never to seen again. Further test messages via the core module result in the same problem.

What have I done ??????? The SMTP Client happily sending out emails to nowhere. Help, I've spent 3 days trying to sort it before I've conceded to someone's help

Best to you all

If you are not getting delivery failure messages from MercC then the problem is (probably) not with your setup, but downstream with your relay server or the receiving server silently deleting them, probably due to anti-spam rules.

If you can't get to the bottom of it, some real info may help us help you.

Without splashing your actual address about for the spammers, the domains involved would be a good start.

Also check a MercC session log to make sure the mail is actually being delivered to the relay.

I've check the session log for two test messages sent via the core module and see no activity that suggests failure with words like 'failed' unable to connect' 'refused' etc

I notice the sender header is 'postmaster@[xxx.xxx.x.xx]' my local network IP that the mail server is on, rather than a 'postmaster@mydomain.abc'. ???

I'm running Thunderbird email client's across my network with a number of email addresses, hence my option to run with a email server to try and control our email system, plus trying to handle some 200+ spam emails a day. It's all working fine and we are dumping the spam, but I would like to return spam (where possible) as 'not at this address' or 'address not found'.

I still have our email clients SMTP direct to our ISP and they send fine, it's just the Merc sending is the prob.

I'd like to close this problem before I purchase a licence.

I'll touch base with my ISP as well and see what they have to say.

Cheers

Sorted !!

The core module had to have the 'postmaster@mydomain.abc' not 'postmaster@xxx.xxx.x.xx (IP)

Thanks for the input, it put new thought into where I should look.

Thanks a mill
