uninstalling P Mail

OK, so delete the PMAIL folder.

Everything Pegasus installs is in there.

This thread describes the fun to be had trying to get PMAIL to be the default mailer under Vista.

You should just be able to change the default mail program from the control panel.

Why you cannot, may be a question for a Vista forum.

Hi all,
I have a question about removing PMail from my computer. I

installed PMail and decided to remove it the next day. I use Windows

Vista and used Add/Remove Control Panel utility. Uninstalled with no

problems, BUT:

Now, when I click on email address on any web

page, I would normally generate a new email message to that email

address through Windows Mail. Instead, I receive message:"WSENDTO

Could not communicate with Pegasus Mail".
I checked that Windows

Mail is set as default and I tried to un-check Pegasus Mail in Default

Programs as default  in MailTo Protocol. I am not able remove the check

mark.

Do you know how to remove PMail from the hard drive? I would appreciate a solution very much.

Thank you.

Which Windows version and browser do you use?

Cheers,
Steffan

Windows Version 6.0, Build 6002, Service Pack 2. Firefox.

Thanks.

Okay, you were talking about being unable to remove the check mark for the mailto protocol. In my Firefox, I don't see a check mark. There is a dropdown list alright, in which I can select the email application of my choice. In my case, it says 'Use Pegasus Mail WSendto Utilty', but I can change that to, say, Thunderbird. Hope this helps.

Steffan

Thank you, it helped - with Firefox, but now, when I click on email address Windows Mail only opens - it does not create a new email message to that recipient.

I am still concerned about Default Programs in Windows Vista (Start>Default Programs>Set Your Default Program. PMail is still showing there and I cannot remove nor uncheck it.

I would basically like my old setup and remove PMail completely. Is that possible?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Vista and don't know where it stores information relating to default programs, as I'm still happily running XP myself. However, when you open Windows Live, doesn't it ask you something like "Windows Live is currently not your default email client. Would you like to set Windows Live as your default mail client?" If this doesn't help, I hope someone running Vista can chime in here.

Steffan

Thank you, I would really like to uninstall Pmail completely out of my system. Is that possible?

Thanks!

I too am unfamiliar with Vista but in XP, I'd go to Control Panel > Internet Options (or into Internet Explorer and open the Internet Options - same thing) and on the Programs tab, select a different setting for E-mail. Try that. Remember, after all these years and some big legal battles, Internet Explorer still has large hooks into Windows.

Thank you, but I am not using IE - I use Firefox.

Yes it is and you have already done it.

To change what Firefox does with mailto: links do this (see attachment):

In Firefox, Tools menu -> Options -> Applications tab -> mailto: option , set it to what you want.

With all the respect, I think that PMail is still on my computer. Firefox  -Mail to - has Pegasus as an option, hard drive  contains PMail folder, and Pegasus Mail sits tightly in Windows Default Programs with checked mark.

Is there a way to remove these remains?
