Issues with Pegasus 4.52

I'm having the same problem - but I've got my installation in c:\pmail\programs and my data files in a folder on D:

This is most probably another UAC issue, i.e the data files folder has different access rights than the copy of Pegasus Mail you're running.

Since upgrading to version 4.52 of Pegasus Mail I have discovered a number of issues that I believe are bugs.

I am runing Windows 7 (hence the upgrade) and have multiple users configured within Pegasus.

1.  I do NOT install Pegasus in the default location of C:\Pmail rather I have Pegasus installed in U:\Pmail.  The U: drive is a virtual drive created by PGP so that its contents are encrypted in the event of the laptop being stolen or lost.

This configuration worked fine previously.

Now I find the following:

Regardless of where I tell the installer to locate Pmail, the mailboxes are still located at C:\Pmail\Mail  I can manually change that using pconfig.exe but then I find that clicking on a mailto link generates an error within WSENDTO that it "Could not communicate with Pegasus Mail"  The mailto links work fine if I leave the mailboxes on the C: drive.

2.  Previously I was able to drag and drop attachments into the file attachment window when creating a new message.  Since the upgrade this no longer works.  I have to go through the Add Attachment button and follow the prompts.

Any thoughts?

Andrew

Both issues may be due to UAC incompatibilities: When I switched to Windows 7 I noticed that my macro application couldn't paste text into RegEdit dialogs anymore as the latter requires Admin rights (no matter whether you're logged in as Admin or not). I could only get this working by launching the macro application on login via task scheduler which allows to grant extended access rights to a scheduled application.

So you may need to check whether these drives run with different access permissions and drag & drop runs into similar conflicts (I don't see such issues here).

Well I also just discovered that if Pegasus is not running and I click on a mailto link or select a file and right click to send to Pegasus that the main Pmail program is launched by WSENDTO but then the error WSENDTO 'Could not communicate with Pegasus Mail' is generated.

No sign of any permissions settings that have changed.

Please see this thread for a possible solution.

In the end I've fixed the issue for my purposes by moving the program files to c:\pmail\programs, leaving mail at u:\pmail\mail (to keep the mailbox secure) and then running pconfig.exe to set the mailbox location correctly

It hasn't actually fixed the issue but is a satisfactory workaround for me.

The mailto link part of the issue MAY have been partly due to a hiccup in the configuration of Firefox but I cannot properly confirm that.  But following that process the drag and drop was not resolved.  So the workaround does the trick all around.

Thanks for the help.

Andrew
