Thanks Your information gave me a great start
In my case Win 7 (64) the path was
C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Pmail.
Thank you Thank you thank you
I copied the mail directory (yes I did make a back up of the existing file).
I clicked on the Pegasus short cut and voila all is back to "normal"
Don't you love how MS re interprets "standards".... one was under XP the world accepted the value of 0 for an IP lease to mean the lease did not expire .. MS gave it a 0 ie no time lease - found tha out the hard way.
The Next was for sharing on a MS network you now (win7) have to give a fully qualified user name ie \\domain\username to log into another PC but - now things are making sense (an AHA moment) if you log into a different machine to copy a file to a local drive you can't do it .... the AHA was that MS has virtualised the dorectories and will not let a "foreign user" even though it is you to copy files into the now virtualised directories.
I guess these interpretations are what keeps PC people employed [:D]
