Reindexing junk folder

Reindexing problem: I reindexed my junk folder and now over 3,000 messages have reappeared. How do I prevent this from happening and how do I get rid of these messages completly and save space on my drive? The same happens when I reindex other folders.

Re-indexing just reads the PMM data file and re-builds the PMI index file.  The deletions only occur in the index until the folder is compressed to remove the deleted messages from the data file.  You need to compress the folders more often so that the deleted messages are not recovered.  If the folder cannot be compressed then the following process will fix the folder. Of course in the case of the Junk folder you probably do not want to do anything other than delete and clean up the folder.

1.  Move all the messages you want to save to a temp folder and
delete all the messages in the original folder.

2.  Use the right click "recover deleted space" to remove all
    messages form the folder.

3.  If step 2 works then simply move all of the messages from the
temp folder back to the original folder and delete the temp
    folder.

4.  If step 2 fails then delete the original folder and rename the
temp folder to match the original name.  Reset the filters
    pointing to this folder.
