Eshtaol,
Good to hear that you could solve the problem. Just as a side note. From your description I got the impression that your settings in the Windows Explorer may be such that you do not see all the extensions of files when you browse a folder? Maybe I am wrong but just in case. Windows always sets the defaults so that 'known' extensions are hidden - not very useful in my view. You may want to check and change. Open the Windows Explorer. Under Tools -> Folder options - >View, remove tick from "Hide extensions for known file types". If you are struggling with system problems you may as well select "Show hidden files and folders". Makes life much easier sometimes [;)]
Cheers

Having a problem with a locked mailbox as others have and have tried to utilize all suggestions given... such as the one below

but with the one below just exactly where do I find the new mail directory if I can't see it. When I open the mail folder the folder appears saying "the mailbox tou are attempting to access to be locked by another process." when I hit continue (as I know nobody else is using) I get a different box which states "Pegasus Mail for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." it gives me 2 other boxes on the left it says DEBUG (which if hit just exits the screen and the other says CLOSE which obviously does the same thing/

also mentioned is Error signature with the following

AppName: winpm-32.exe     AppVer: 4.5.2.0     ModName: winpm-32.exe
ModVer: 4.5.2.0     Offset: 0018b976

As mentioned where do I find the new mail directory if it never shows?

Move all of the *.CNM files out of the new mail directory and try

again.  It should now open normally.  You can then put the messages back

one at a time until you find the problem message.

It's probaby

going to be a really large message.  If you are using content control

then I'd recommend that you set a limit on the message size so you are

not scanning these large files with encoded attachments.

1.

Use  Tools | Spam and content controls | Content control...
2.

Select and edit the control definition
3.    Select the "Message

tests" tab.
4.    Enter 8000 in "Check at most this many bytes

in each message"

You should move the *.cnm files from whatever folder they're in to a different folder, say x:\temp, using Windows Explorer or another file manager, and then put them back one at a time until you find the problem message. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

As Steffan suggested, try to locate your email/data folder (not through PM). I guess PM probably created it during installation (?) so it could be somewhere close to C:\program Files\pmail\Programs or so (replace C with other HD letter if you install into D etc.). The best way is just use your Windows Explorer and search your hard drive for files with the extension "CNM". That should give you a clue about the directory where the email files reside.
Hope this helps

Well I appreciate everything that has been explained to me but as we say I must be dumber than a box of rocks because I still have no luck in totally unlocking the mailbox. When I say totally...I mean I went searching and went into the local C drive, pmail, clicked on it and within the listings there was "programs." clicking on that there were several items (mostly dll) but there was the Pegasus symbol with winpm-32.exe. If I right click on that one and open the locked box window appears BUT if I click on continue the mailbox does open and a somewhat normal process. normal to the extent I can receive mail but cannot sent w/o that message "Pegasus Mail for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Is there really some way I can reinstall and start all over again from scratch and at the same time saving & not losing all my settings. this is really frustrating

Don't you also see a folder named 'mail'? If so, open that one and look for *.cnm files.

Cheers!

There will be a file with extension of .lck (lock) that when Pegasus is closed can be deleted in the mailstore directory if that helps you.

I must apologize to everyone for not replying. I've been away for the past couple of days and really forgot to sign out.Called away on business.Yes there was a folder named mail but there was no specific listing for *.cnm files I had to run my mouse over every icon to to see which was listed as a *.cnm file. I saw a few messages I could actually delete. At the moment, everything seems to be okay (thank god...as I live and die by this mail service

I want to thank everyone You, Thomas & Aderoy for stopping by to help

I saw your suggestion about the .lck and actually deleted it. There were others associated with and also deleted them, All those

files had 0 bytes within them so I got rid of them. Thanks for the help
