Problem with update to 4.52 -- user name

Thanks guys. I posted before seeing your replies.

I installed a clean copy of 4.52 in a new directory and just copied over the folder with all the data in it. Everything seems to be there. Meantime, the 4.41 installation to which I installed the 4.52 version seems to have swallowed its pride and is also running as it should. No data has been lost and nobody is asking me for user names anymore.

I think the problem may have been with my ISP. I have four machines running here all with Pegasus and the same ISP. The other three were running fine all along while this one got hung up with the 2745 error.

I have just installed version 4.52 over version 4.41 as an update.

When I click on the start icon a window pops up asking for a user name. This I have never seen before.

No matter what I type in does not work and the splash screen promptly closes. In short, I cannot get into Pegasus 4.52 which is the only version I now have.

What prompted the update was the sudden dailure of V. 4.41 to connect. I could neither send nor receive anything. Some message ending in error code 2745.

I can send and receive mail through my ISP web site. But I would really like to be able to use Pegasus.

You can not use 4.52 install to update 4.41. It is designed to update a 4.51 install.

Use the complete 4.52 archive and install to c:\pmail (the default) running as admin is how it is designed to work.

What Windows version are you using? Install as admin and also turn UAC off. Your home mail box location should them be c:\pmail\mail\admin or c:\pmail\mail\<username>

Where are your pmail.ini file and your *.pmi and *.pmm message folder pairs located now? If you copy or restore from backup or cdrom make sure any read only attributes for the files are removed. WinPMail can not work with read only files.

No, no, no, don't recommend users to do this (turning off UAC), Jerry, it might cause lots of havoc not only with Pegasus Mail (other applications may not find their settings either) - not to talk about security! Yes, we need to know what Windows version you're using because some things have significantly changed especially with Pegasus Mail's version 4.52.

Never mind. The problem seems to have solved itself after thinking about it overnight. So now I have two copies of 4.52 running.
