Copy and Paste not workin

The clipboard is a shared resource which can be unavailable for new content when an ill-behaved app doesn't release it properly.  Also, it might not work if there are inadequate system resources.  Neither of these scenarios sound likely but are easy to test by cold booting then testing the copy/paste functions while only running Pegasus Mail and Notepad.

In my boss's Pmail, he all of a sudden can't copy and paste.  When he copies, that's fine. He goes to paste into a new message, either nothing happens or he gets a message there's nothing in the clipboard. Yet if we open up, say OpenOffice or notepad and do a paste, the text pastes in those apps just fine.  I checked his rich text settings (he was copying some addresses, and also in another case a URL)  and everything seem fine. What else can I check in his setup?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe an access rights issue? What Windows versions? Is Pegasus Mail run using a different user (Admin) than the application he's trying to copy from (no Admin), e.g.?

It's not a rights issue.  Pmail is running as it always has, from the network, same user name on all apps as he does not use his admin login except to patch his system.  Windows XP SP3, fully patched.  Same setup throughout the company, yet suddenly he's the only one experiencing this issue. I've compared his settings to many others and there's nothing that stands out that would cause this.  The message he gets is "Clipboard does not contain specified formatted data".  It's almost as if Pegasus is looking for a certain format and the clipboard looks to be formatted otherwise, so Pegasus can't read it.  If you manually run the clipboard (clipbrd.exe), you can see the copied text in there, it looks fine, and it pastes fine into any other program on his system.

I remember having seen something like this before forcing me to use Paste special ... either from the context menu or pressing Ctrl + Shift + V. And the issue finally somehow disappeard as mysteriously as it occured ...

I can full agree with this problem, it first happened with version V4.51 beta DE and WIN XP. You can do what you want, but you can not copy - paste anything in the new mail editor with any copy - paste option from Pegasus mail . When you open MS Word or simply notepad and then paste the text you can see it normal. After that you can paste the text in the Pmail new mesage editor. The problem comes very often when you mark and copy normal text from the MS Internetexplorer V8 and then you want to insert it in the Pmail new mail editor.

Michael I will certainly have him try that.  He uses cut and paste all the time, and to suddenly not have use of it is really frustrating to him. He's not happy I haven't been able to come up with an answer either.  I hope this works! [*-)]

Just heard back - that didn't work for him. Ugh!  Any other ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance

IIRC when this occured to me I tried pasting into an address or the subject line and afterwards it worked in the editor as well. I know this sounds extremely weird, but I don't remember having encountered this issue again afterwards ... hope it helps ...

Well, the copy to notepad first then copy from Notepad into Pmail didn't work.  I will have him try your suggestion and we'll see.  I am leaving for vacation so I won't be able to get back to this thread for a few days.

Appreciate the help so far!

Well, no luck. He still can't cut and paste and he's not a happy camper. Oh well, I am not sure what else to do at this point.  Thanks for all the help anyway!

I sometimes find that I try to do ctrl V and it does not work.  I then right click and take the paste option, and it works, I know not why.  I'm on Windows XP, by the way.

As long as you can't provide a (duplicatable) pattern we won't be able to fix it, unfortunately ...

Hi everyone,

It is not often that I have to ask for advice, but this time I am stumped.

I have Pegasus installed on 2 PCs: one (v4.63) runs on win Seven and I am administrator (but do't run it with administratr privilege) and the other is under XP (v4.61).

Both run  from local HDD.

I can't copy formatted text from a message to the clipboard on the one running Seven yet I can on the other.

When I toggle the viewer to present the unformatted text, I can copy on both.

I am sure that at one point in the near past I could do that.

If I open PM as an administrator on the PC under Seven, then I can copy formatted text.

How can I have PM behave as if I had opened as an administrator without actually doing so? (there is this bothersome window in Seven which always asks if I still want to run the application)

Thank you.

Can you paste formatted text if you right click then select Paste Special > Formatted text, including styles and pictures if present?  If so, go to Tools > Options > Outgoing mail > Message formatting and untick the "Always paste plain text in preference to styled text" option.

You may want to try again after updating IERenderer.

Hi,

I just updated to Pegasus Mail 4.70. the issue is even worse. Now even when I want to copy some formatted text in a mail message having opened PM as administrator, nothing gets copied to the clipboard.

The only way I can get a copy of some part of a formatted message is by toggling to  plain text. But then, of course, a lot of unwanted hard returns at the end of each line get added to the original text...

I did not upgrade IERenderer as I expect that the IERenderer.dll is updated when updating PM. If fact, the dll version number in the IERenderer folder in the programs folder is 2.4.9.2 last modified on January 29th, 2014. Is it the right one?

BTW, I unticked the box  in options->Outgoing mail->Message formatting always paste plain text in preference to styled text.

Any reply welcome.

Thanks in advance.

First of all, how do you check whether anything gets copied to the clipboard? My reason for asking is that it will very likely be impossible to copy and paste text across applications running with different access privileges (e.g. admin vs. non-admin). IOW: For testing only copy and paste text from a Pegasus Mail window to another Pegasus Mail window. Secondly, IE provides an advanced setting for programmatical access to the clipboard in the security options screen for Internet zones. Does it make any difference if trying these options?

My experience of copy/paste in PM4.70 under Win seven (x64) without admin rights so far:

- Message has 2 versions : html and text: copying from formatted html to notepad or to any other window in PM does not work, nothing gets copied to the clipboard. This behavior takes place wherever I want to paste the copied part (Notepad or another message I start from PM.

When copying from  plain text: works.

- Message has no plain text view: unable to copy (eg, a message written with Outlook and encoded in base64). However, if I start a message forwarding the one with the text I want to copy, then I can copy the part of the message I want.

- Message only has plain text: no problem copying and pasting.

Any solution would be much appreciated as I very often have to take parts of a message as input for other work.

Regards.

Xavier
