Fix bug where message editor closes despite user's response not to

No, maybe just my non-standard typing! I guess if it is happening to others, they won't know what happened or will write it down to "must be more careful next time" and so not mention it. It happened a lot of times before I mentioned it here.

I'm assuming the "double dialog box" bug is easy to replicate on other systems.

PS I just found the "enable email subscription" button on this forum and clicked it - I was wondering how to enable that. I should get replies now.

Just happened again (again) - I was typing away in a message and (perhaps while/after doing something in a menu) inadvertently closed Pegasus Mail through some annoyingly frequent typo (perhaps Alt followed by a word with f then x in it) and continued typing for a couple of characters which inevitably included a "Y" to the dialog asking whether to discard the message. Pegasus Mail then cleverly asks you again if you want to discard the message - but whatever answer you give, it closes and loses the message (and autosaved copy). So before that point I usually take a screenshot so I can retype at least they parts I can see, but I was too quick this time.

I do the accidental "quit without save" thing very rarely in other apps, but is something I dread in Pegasus Mail - I never know what the key sequence is.

Hopefully this is an easy one to fix - because the solution is half there already!

Just happened again...

This time I was quicker with the printscreen button.

This time I was actually closing another program and somehow it got into Pmail. Quite why this happens so frequently with Pmail and (almost) never with any other app I don't know.

And again - this time a much more obvious cause:

I pressed esc while editing a message (possibly to back out of a menu, can't remember, not my priority after losing a lot of typing) and up popped the discard message dialog. One tap of the spacebar (typing I was in the middle of) and PFFT long message gone.

BTW I don't "save early save often" with Pegasus Mail because of its proensity to crash when doing so.

rant on:

I have been a long time supporter of pmail (at least since 1994)(and yes I did pay for manuals), but I'm beginning to see the beginning of the end for this - it's a closed system without a practical way for basic interface issues like this to get fixed - not a dig at the author or team of testers or even the development plan etc, but at the "closed source community supported free software" model, especially for a 'product' that is so mature and relatively popular. Nor do I really support the idea of completely open-sourcing of projects like this (more fighting and mess if there is no real leadership), but it has to be a worthy option.

rant off: better try the latest version

Oh, I forgot to say that after the esc key is pressed, on the "discard message" dialog, "Yes" comes up as the default - so if you inadvertently hit enter or space, message gone. I think that's a good part of the reason why this problem is unusually common in pmail.

I'm getting into the habit of using Word to write my messages, then paste them in. I may have to make it a rule.

I wonder how many other people are experiencing this problem. I can't recall it ever happening to me. You have not, by any chance, selected some non-standard system keyboard layout, have you?

Cheers!
