and yes... it worked by changing the shortcut! Actually, I even prefer leaving my original identity as it is (a sort of safety exit), but do want to primarily use my second one. Thank you for your help Bob (and thank you Steffan... I'm also keeping your instructions for when I'll really need to leave my original identity .... I sound like some secret agent now ;)

Hello all

I have decided, in the long run, to trust my gmail address more, so now I would like to make it become my default email address, and use the other one (current default) as second identity.

Is there a way I can do this without having to reset all settings?

Now you just have to wait for a satisfactory response :-) I wish I could give it but I know of no easy way to change the default identity. Seems to me the only way this can be done is by going down the tricky road of editing the pmail.ini file, but I hope someone can prove me wrong.

However, it is true that I used the standard settings of my default address also for the second identity, Would that mean I would need to change only the smpt and pop settings?

That should do the trick alright. And the easy part is that you only have to remove and add the definitions for each identity, i.e. you don't have to re-enter all the details manually. If you remove a definition (using the Remove button in the Receiving and Sending tabs of the Internet mail options window ), the associated file as such will remain in place and be available for selection for whatever other identity.

I actually printed out the pmail.ini file to see if I can figure it out but it turns out much more complicated than I thought. The settings for the default identity have some parameters unique to them (which makes it difficult me to understand how to pass from skynet (belgacom, my provider) to gmail as default identity. To make it worse, in the gmail parameters (my current second identity) there are both pop and smpt settings that do refer to the default identity.

I do not dare mess it up!!! What to do?

The way I handle this problem is to add the -ID switch to start up Pegasus with the desired identity.  You can then leave the default identity alone.

For example, my Pegasus shortcut has the command line :

 C:\PMAIL\winpm-32.exe -A -ID Gmail

 where Gmail is the identity I want to start up in.

 This has worked for me since identities appeared (in v3 of Pegasus IIRC).

For starters, don't mess up anything! :-) The best thing to do when you're about to change something drastically, anyway, is make a full backup of your Pmail installation.

Then, either go for my suggestion to 'remove' the definitions (which is really not the same as deleting them) as you wish and to 'add' them as you wish for each identity, or for Bob's suggestion, which I believe is just as effective. If you're not as anal (pardon the phrase) about this as I am (by which I mean that I want my <default> identity to actually be my default identity), I would certainly recommend Bob's suggestion.
