Hi there,

I've been using Pegasus for a couple of years now without problems until this week.

I have 4 different email addresses my default to my web site, 3 others to Gmail, etc. everything OK until two days ago when I noticed ALL my outgoing mail was going from the default address. I tried all addresses on the drop down menu on the outgoing mail but ALL had my default address as sender. Can anyone help please, this is a big problem as I have two VERY different businesses and a lot of explaining to do!

Regards

First of all: What version of Pegasus Mail? Secondly: Check your settings on Tools => Internet Options, especially the POP and SMTP definitions being used by the various identities (assuming you use this feature for different mail accounts).

I'm using Pegasus v 4.51 (win32)

I have checked the POP and SMTP settings and they all appear to be as before the problem.

I have tried re-entering a couple of the identities and I'm afraid I'm in a worse spot than before.

I'm not sure I understand fully the exact method of setting up the identities and the internet options. Does the default identity have any setting and if so where are they?

I'ts such a long time since I set this up with the help of someone like yourself Michael and having no problems in the past I have had no occasion to change anything so I'm a bit lost.

Thanks Paul

The default identity works the same way as any other identity: After selecting a global identity (on Pegasus Mail's toolbar) you can change its settings via the respective Tools menu entry. But there are various ways of changing identity associations, so:

  1. Does this issue only occur when sending newly created emails or does it affect replies and forwards as well?
  2. Do you change the global identity for sending mails (no matter which one of the above), do you switch identities in the forward or reply dialogs or in the editor itself (probably the most reliable place as you can immediately see what is actually applied without having to double-check - if enabling Add 'Identity' selector on Tools => Options => Messages and replies this will become even easier as you wouldn't have to switch to the Special tab for changing identities.
  3. You can also assign identities to folders (right-click a folder and select the respective entry for changing, a check mark would indicate whether a folder has an identity assigned), i.e. when replying to or forwarding a message from a folder it may use a different identity than when creating a new message from scratch. By default the global identity is used.

Thanks Michael,

The problem only affected newly created emails. I change the outgoing address via the drop down list in the editor.

However, cleared off ALL my existing email details, Identities, POP and SMTP and started from scratch and everything works OK with the exception of one problem. Before this recent problem when I created new mail the DEFAULT was always selected in the drop down list and when I used the selective download option ALL my email addresses were there to choose from. But now one of the others is showing in the drop down list and if I go to Identities and choose default I can only see one of my addresses in the selective dowload list, can you hepl with this please?

Regards Paul

Paul, unfortunately I don't understand what you are talking about here: Selective download doesn't offer any options at all for selecting email addresses. And I though we were talking about selecting identities, not email addresses (unless your identities are named like email addresses)? Which identity is selected on the toolbar?

My apologies Michael,

Yes, I have named my identities as my different email addresses. Each time I go into Pegasus now and click 'Selective Download' only one choice is visible, my default address (my website email) only if I open 'Identities' and become the last one on the list can I see ALL four of my address in the selective download list, this then revrts back to just one address on the list next time I open Pegasus and on the Identities list it reverts back to Default each time. Sorry if I'm not making this clear, is it possible to send you screen shots?

Regards Paul

It sounds like you are badly confused about Identities. Each one is essentially a separate set of options - more info is on the wiki. This includes your name, your e-mail address (as listed in the From header) and the POP and SMTP servers available (as well as many other things).

Clearly, one of your identities includes more POP servers from which to choose. They can all be made available to the other identities by selecting an identity and then adding the existing POP definition (it exists because it's shown in another identity) under Internet Options.

YES, I was confused as you said, I found the POP definition you mentioned and all work OK Now. Can you clear one thing

for me Please?  How do I get the DEFAULT identiy to show automatically in the editor drop down box (I use this most) and still see ALL 4 of my identities when I choose Selective Mail Download?

Thanks again Paul Petulengro (Spain)

This time you are confused about Selective Mail Download.   :)

Each of your identities can have as many active POP definitions/servers as you want. "Default" could have all four or it might only have one. When you click "Selective Mail Download", you are given a choice between the POP definitions that are active in the current identity. If you haven't added a particular definition to that identity, it will not appear in the Selective Mail Download box.

I don't know what you mean about having the Default identity showing in the list. You can't make it disappear.
