Trying to run Pegasus on Windows 7 loaded from a network

As I see it then, I currently have Pegasus 4.41 on 98SE. I can also run it from XP computer (peer-to-peer) But my problem is I cannot call it from my Windows 7-64 laptop (peer-to-peer wireless).

I am thinking of installing 4.52 on the XP but keep the mailbox on 98SE. Then I think I could call the 4.52 up from XP and W7, and to continue to run the 4.41 as is on 98SE -- leaving 98SE untouched.

As I started the install of 4.52 on XP, the install program discovered the 4.41 copy on 98SE and offered to either update it (keeping it on 98SE I presume) or to make a new install (on XP I presume).

One factor that might complicate things is the the newmail is in a folder under mail. (On 98SE, \PMAIL\ is on D:, and the mailbox is partition E: at E:\mail\Pmail\newmail\)

Q1 - Should I have reasonable expectation that this will work -- with the mailbox being addressed by two different versions of Pegasus?

Q2 - Is there a better configuration I should be using? Like is it dangerous to have the mailbox on a different computer from the program?

I have Pegasus 4.41 installed on windows 98se. I am trying to access it from a Windows 7 laptop over my wireless system. The address syntax is
"\\Tower\D\Program Files\PMAIL\winpm-32.exe"
Pegasus runs but it is not stable -- the interface is not all there and it keeps hanging up.

I expected it to work because by that method I can load and run Pegasus on my XP computer. Any suggestions?

Win7 requires the use of v4.52 to handle some display problems but I do not know why it is hanging.  The hanging may be caused by a Win98 and Win7 networking problem.

Is an update to v4.52 on w98se typically trouble free?

Nope.  The limits of Win98 may cause all sorts of problems. I no longer have any Win9x systems for testing so yuo'lll have to get the details from others.

4.52 will not run on ME or older OS. Only will run on win2000 and newer. You can run 4.51 on 98se or NT4 but it will not work well with your Win7 machine. XP will run either version well.

4.52 was made with VS2008 and the new compiler will not create programs that can be run with the older MS OS's.

OK, Is it a matter of the OS on the machine that Pegasus is installed on? Like, what if I install 5.52 on my XP. Will I then be able to load/run it by network from w7 and from 98SE?

I would expect it to depend on the machine running on, not the one being installed on.
