MERGING CURRENT EMAIL FILES WITH A BACKUP

Yes, absolutely that's a valid way of repopulating a mailbox from a backup. I didn't propose it partly because of the existence of new mail since the reinstallation. I don't know how the filenames of folder files are created so I don't know what the chances of duplication would be. With care though, as you pointed out, it is quite a simple approach.

My computer motherboard burned up and I  replaced my computer. I have Pegasus reinstalled and running and have quite a few emails received and sent since reinstalling it. My old computer was fully backed up and I would like to recover and mergel all of my old emails into the current installation. How do I go about doing that, please?

Thanks

If you only have a few weeks of new e-mail, it might be better to back up your current stuff, overwrite everything with one of your "pre-burn" backups and then import the relatively small number of new messages into that.

Maybe use the "Add mailbox to list" option to link to a folder on your PC, then copy all of your recent mail to that. Now you can restore your old backup and then re-connect to the new folder and re-import your recent mail.

You should find plenty of help about the process elsewhere in this forum.

I seem to remember that when I suggested a similar or possibly another, somewhat roundabout way of restoring mail or mail folders in a different thread, Dilberts_left_nut replied something to the effect of 'how about just copying the backed up *.pmm and *.pmi files to the Pmail mail directory?'. I hope my memory serves me right here. In any event, make sure you don't overwrite any existing *.pmm and *.pmi files.

Cheers!
