Betreft: can't download mail from Windows Live

Take a look at:

The two differences between that advice which got it working were:
1. Using port 587 for outbound mail

2. Checking the 'Do not use CRAM-MD5 even if advertised' box

Maybe someone with live.com experience could check if the pegasusmail.nl tip needs updating?
I've changed the settings as showing above and tested and it works fine now.
Thank you PaulW.

My email service provider recently decided to stop providing service and directed us all to Windows Live where we could keep our existing email address but be served by the Windows Live site.  I cannot, however get my Pegasus to connect to that host - either to download or upload email.

The error message I get when trying to send email is:

Goto Tools => Internet options => Receiving resp. Sending => Security and tick Disable certificate validation ... But, of course, it's the provider's duty to keep their certificates valid ...

The  security compliance was already disabled.  I tried putting that certificate code in but that didn't work either.

tried all that too.  Now I get a message that 'authentication failed'.

Also, for some reason, when I tried to set my wife's pegasus up for Live.com allowing the existing mts email server to make some changes to the computer, suddenly she can't send from her second(work) email address - which had nothing to do with the mts server we'd been using for personal email.

Is it possible that something is changed somewhere else in our home network?

Into what? The (server) certificate if only used like in a browser for setting up a secure connection, you'll never get it to see and CrypLib doesn't (AFAIK) use the Windows certificate store for this.

Hello,

I use the same ISP, and had a challenging time setting up Pegasus to work with same when they moved to Windows Live.  I don't know if this will solve your problem, but here are the settings in Pegasus which eventually worked for me, and I now have no trouble receiving or sending email.

In Pegausus:  Tools-Internet Options-Receiving(POP3).  Highlight your pop3 host name (which should read "yourname@mymts.net@pop3.live.com).  Click the Edit button.  Under the General tab:  server host name pop3.live.com; user name yourname@mymts.net, password your MTS password.

Server TCP/IP port 995.  Under the SECURITY tab:  Use SSL/TLS security-via direct SSL connect.  Check the box which says "disable certificate validation"

For receiving mail:  Tools-Internet Options-Sending(SMTP).  Highlight "smpt.live.com", click on Edit.  Under the General tab:  Server TCP/IP port 587.

Under the Security tab:  Use SSL/TLS via STARTTLS

Uncheck the box "Enable server certificate"

Check the box "Disable certificate validation"

SMTP Authentication:

Check the box "Login to the SMTP server using a POP3 username/password from this POP3 defintion", then select your username.

Check the box "Do not use CRAM-MD5 authentication....."

David,

Yes, I am in Winnipeg, and am very glad that worked for you.  I distinctly remember how frustrating it was for me to set up Pegasus with Windows Live, so the fact that I can help someone else to get the program working properly is thanks enough for me.

The two differences between that advice which got it working were:

1. Using port 587 for outbound mail

2. Checking the 'Do not use CRAM-MD5 even if advertised' box

Maybe someone with live.com experience could check if the pegasusmail.nl tip needs updating?
