Using Pegasus Mail on more than one computer
This is apparently a hardware error.

I'm really sorry to ask for so much time. Wow I feel like a dunce.
You should try another thumb drive to make sure that is not the problem.

Additionally you can remove the usb drivers through Device Manager and let Windows redetect the ports

to eliminate that as a possible source of the problem.

Can I use Pegasus Mail on two different computers--downloading, reading, writing, and sending mail sometimes on one and sometimes on the other, in my case a desktop that remains at home and a laptop that wanders around with me--and coordinate the mail and folders so that whatever I have on one computer I also have on the other?

Thanks for your help,

Jules Levinson

I have done this by putting all Pegasus Mail (program and mailboxes) onto a memory stick, and then just using that. Back it up from time to time, but it saves any synchronisation problems. :)

I don't know exactly what you wish to synchronise (just mail or address books too?), but the answer is yes, especially if your provider supports the IMAP protocol. But even if it doesn't, there are ways to achieve this. For example, I use Dropbox, which serves as a kind of USB flash drive. I've used the Add mailbox option in Pegasus to place a mailbox in my Dropbox folder where I keep mail that I want to be able to access at home as well as at work.

Cheers!

Steffan,

Most helpful. Thank you. Yes, I want to synchronize both mail and address books. I will look into the IMAP protocol and Dropbox (which I have recently begun using for synchronizing documents on the two computers).

Paul,

Are you saying that you install the program onto the memory stick? I would never have thought that to be possible. Can one shuffle the files back and forth using such a memory stick, or is it not worth the trouble?

Thanks, Jules
Are you saying that you install the program onto the memory stick?
Yes, exactly. Since the stick may have a different letter given it depending on the host computer, Pegasus Mail has had the ability for some time to use whatever drive letter it finds. See the -roam option in help/commandline options
Can one shuffle the files back and forth using such a memory stick, or is it not worth the trouble?
I'm not sure what you mean. The memory stick behaves just like a disk in the machine, so you could copy anything you want.

Paul,

Thank you. The answer to my first question means that my second question is silly. I'll explore this.

This is quite relevant to my interests.

I just recently installed Pegasus on the physical hard drive on my small hand-book computer.

I think I did the wrong thing.

I think I should have installed it on a memory stick instead.

If I do that, then can I do this ?...

-1- Take small hand-book to Wi-Fi site

-2- Download messages for the day

-3- Take stick home

-4- Read and write

-5- Put stick back on hand-book

-6- Take handbook to Wi-Fi site

-7- Upload responses, etc.

Hooray. Thanks.

I sent and received message from one other Wi-Fi hot-spot outside my physical home here, once, yesterday

Do I need to remove Pegasus from my desktop computer here ?

I want to attempt to run it from the memory stick on both machines

-- The small computer connected at hot-spots

-- The home computer without an internet connection.

Currently works properly, from thumb drive, on small machine.

I plug it (the thumb drive) into the desktop machine; Pegasus will not execute. I get a message on the screen..

winpm-32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

... Please tell Microsoft about this problem....

(etc.)

There is a hi-lighted blue link on that error message that says it will provide technical details. Not much help here, but I'll post it anyway just in case...

Error Signature

Event Type: InPageError P1:c000000e P2: 00000000

There was another link that indicated where the error reporting files were temporarily held.

I believe that I was able to get those files with my text editor, and can post them or E-mail them to the developers here if that would be useful; please understand that I have no idea of what this is all about; I'm just doing the best that a clueless newbee knows how to do. The names of the three files are...

--- manifest.txt ---

--- winpm-32.exe.mdmp ---

--- winpm-32.exe.hdmp ---

The first file "manifest.txt" contains what appears to be "almost ascii" text, with a nul (Value 00h) inserted between each regular character. When I removed the nuls, it reads almost like English; "ErrorText" and so on.

The other two files appear to be hex data that is beyond my ability to guess with simple cursory observation.

I suppose I could post the first one here. I think it's 19 lines long.

Anyway, if this helps anyone, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

For the moment, Pegasus on the thumb drive works on the small machine, but not the desktop.

Presumably you used the roam option when installing to the laptop.

On the desktop you need to create a shortcut using the -ROAM, -MS and -I <username> switches.

Have you done that?

Presumably you used the roam option when installing to the laptop.

On the desktop you need to create a shortcut using the -ROAM, -MS and -I <username> switches.

Have you done that?

--

James Quigley

Correct about ROAM and the small computer.

About your suggested shortcut: No I have not.

Ignorance confession time; I don't know how to do that.

Is there a FAQ and/or example section here on the forums that explains and/or demonstrates how to do that ?

Connect the thumb drive to your desktop machine.

Go to the executable, winpm-32.exe in the Programs folder. Right click and select "Create Shortcut".

Drag the shortcut onto the desktop.

Right click on the shortcut and select Properties.

Amend the target description by adding -ROAM -MS -I Username.

Hit Apply and OK.

Try to start Pmail from the new shortcut.

For help on the shortcut switches look at the Pmail Index under Command line options.

I'm getting strange behavior on my machine.

I right-click on winpm-32.exe in the programs folder. (This is on the thumb drive, on my desktop machine.)

The cursor turns into an hour-glass

Machine essentially does not respond to human input.

10 or 11 seconds later, all files disappear and then I'm looking at "control panel"

This happens in Microsoft Windows Explorer

This happens in Handy File Tool exactly the same way.

The machine here is Windows XP.

Current brain state: total "duh".

Update: it doesn't matter if I use the mouse or the keyboard cursor movement keys. If that file name is hi-lited, the pane disappears and is replaced with the control panel.

This happens only on winpm-32.exe, no others that I've observed. I tested all 17 *.EXE files and that's the only one which does this.

I'm wondering if it is related to the other winpm-32.exe shortcut present in windows start menu.

This is really "duh"

It won't work that way. By just running or just double clicking no necessary commandline information or options are being passed.

What I have done is place and icon with correct startup commandline on the memory stick and to start the memory stick install. I use that icon to run Pegasus Mail.
