So there was something between WinPMail and the server after all.   :-)

First time encountered error

An attachment (.wmv file 4.02mb) added to an outgoing message. When I hit send it gets to 79% then Peg locks up solid. Have to end it from Task Manager

I have increased all the time-outs no difference. Checked the file for problems and seems to be fine....I can run it in Media Player. It came in fine from my son but will not go out !

I installed the MinDump add-on but get nothing (presumably 'cos Peg freezes not crashes ??)

Checked that the file will upload to my hotmail account so my ISP is not choking it.

Have no problems uploading normally and do a lot of uploading to clients in the middle-east. This has just suddenly started happening. I have run Spybot S&D and PC Tools AV as well as MS Malicious Software tool. HD has been defragged, lots of memory and free space. Peg does not recognise the attachment BTW.......just says "unknown attachment" (or words to that effect) but that happens frequently anyway.

I am flummoxed !!  Help would be appreciated

feeel free to mail me     peter  wilkinson at the sasktel network place....the first and last names should have no space between them

How long did you wait for the message to be sent?  If you leave it alone does it finally timeout?

Is there anything between Pegasus Mail and the server like a anti-virus/spam proxy?

The most recent version of the MiniDump extension is prepared for dealing with such a situation: It creates a Start menu entry in it's shortcut folder called Snapshot. If launching this one while Pegasus Mail hangs it'll create a report to be sent after restarting Pegasus Mail - provided your system is XP/W2K or later.

Nope....nothing between Peg and my ISP except a router with firewall disabled. The problem has just suddenly appreared.

Ref...time out.....no....I can wait 15 mins (and have) but Peg is frozen and I have to close it with Task Manager. Files come in fine but this one stalls at 75 0r 79%. If it gets that far I am assuming it is not an AV or firewall problem - seems curious to start and get that far then freeze. If it was a time-out Peg would not respond by freezing??

I reinstalled Peg but it makes no difference the same thing happens

re the reponse re Minidump....I don't see the file described and the version was downloaded yesterday so presume it is the latest ??  The Minidump folder is in C:\pmail\programs so I assume that is where this "Snapshot" would be??

Thanks for the help so far....much appreciated

As said before it's a shortcut In MiniDump's Start menu group usually called Pegasus Mail Debugger (the group resp. folder in the Windows Start menu where most Windows applications install their shortcuts as well, the one which pops up when clicking the Start button on your sytem's taskbar).
here's a paste from  wordpad if that helps - I know it's not an ideal way to do this !
No, it doesn't help at all, copying and pasting binary data doesn't work, it modifies the data - unless using a hex editor. Can't you send the file via a web interface of your email provider (you can find my address in the ReadMe file of the MiniDump extension).  I don't know whether you're permitted to do so, but you may also try attaching the zipped file to a forum post on the forum editor's "Options" page, but this might be a privacy issue because dumps may contain personal (or account) data. And, BTW: I can't use Opera for writing this reply anymore because of this post (no buttons displayed anymore), so maybe it's a good idea to just edit your post and remove the data once you come back here...

Crash when sending attachment "solved"....or at least identified !

PCTOOLS AV Free.........is the culprit....some recent update has resulted in a conflict.

Even disabling the outgoing and incoming E-mail scan function does not help. It is necessary to totally disable PCTOOLS AV in order to get attachments to go.

As it's free (PCTOOLS AV) i am unable to inform them of the problem....there's no support for the free version.....I guess you get what you pay for and it has been an excellent AV over the years....I do hope they get a fix

many thanks to the excellent and patient help received from "idw"  - Thanks Michael
