Running out of space with Mercury running directly on Netware

The mail folder format should be the same, and the program should report it's result regardless of if it's success or failure. If you run the program without any parameters you should get a help text looking like this:

Pegasus Mail/Mercury mailbox maintenance commandline utility

Commandline usage -

   MBXMAINT <command_filename> | <option [option...]>

      -QU[IET]

      -CH[ECK] <folder_pmm_path_with_optional_wildcards>

      -CO[MPRESS] <folder_pmm_path_with_optional_wildcards>

      -MO[VE] <source_path> <dest_path>

      -RE[PAIR] <folder_pmm_path>

If the file path is right it could perhaps be that the file system returns an error because the limited space won't allow it to unpack the files. Try it with a very small folder to start with.

I have a very reliable mail server that has been running for many years on Netware. But the drive with the pmail folders is running out of space. Because Netware compresses old files I have run into a problem. Some of the PMM (folder extention) files are too large to uncompress, modify and recompress in the remaining disk space. There are also some files ending in $$$ that I cannot tell what they are. The owner of the large pmail directory has tried to delete messages out of these old folders but I am not sure if the messages are actually being deleted since the server keeps giving an error message of uncompressed file cannot be saved due to sufficient free space (or something to the effect).

When messages are deleted from folders the the messages removed or simply marked as deleted until a compacting routine is executed?

PMM folders will probably need to be compacted to regain space. There is a tool called mbxmaint that can do this. It's included with Pegasus, or can be downloaded from here:

However, first you will obviously need to get sufficient working space on your drive. Shut down Mercury and try copying all mailboxes to a USB stick or removable drive (or make a backup using your normal backup system). Then delete some of the mailboxes, and compact the remaining ones. (Always do a mailbox check first. If the mailbox is OK you can compact it, otherwise repair it.) After that restore the other mailboxes and do similar compacting on them.

$$$ files are probably just temp files that can be deleted, but to be on the safe side don't do that until you have verified that the mailboxes are OK after compacting.

I tried running the program from windows explorer and it seemed to do nothing. Then I saw that it was a command line program. So I opened a command prompt and tried running the program. It again seemed to do nothing because is exited without any error message is less than a second. That seemed a little quick for over 6 gig of folders (PMM files). So I tried giving it options but it still seemed to do nothing.

I see that the program is for version 4 of pmail. Will it work with version 1 of Mercury?
