What is the Configuration|Pegasus Mail menu item for?

At the moment I don't have an entry in the Configuration|Pegasus Mail field for the path to the Pegasus Mail executables so the path showing in the outgoing queue field is incorrect.  It is a shame that there isn't a way to enter the path to the executables and have the field for the outgoing queue be updated automatically from PMGATE.SYS.  I certainly don't want to risk updating the configuration just to get these fields to reflect valid paths but it sure mislead me for a few moments when they didn't.  A suggestion to David to fix this perhaps?

AGREED!!!!  The only reason I post here is for maybe some additional perspective from the folks who are active here but aren't active on the list.  It sure is tedious communicating here though.  Of course, communicating with a handheld wireless device is tedious to me.  Is my age showing? <G>

I am wondering about the Configuration|Pegasus Mail menu item.  It says that it modifies PMGATE.SYS which I have always done using PCONFIG.

Does it replace the need to use PCONFIG for setting the outgoing mail queue directory?

Is the purpose of the "Directory for Pegasus Mail.EXE file" field simply to tell Mercury where PMGATE.SYS resides?

Yes, this is where the Mercury UDG is stored.

Not really.  When Mercury creates the pmgate.sys file it uses the settings in Mercury in this file.  This is not always the right value, especially if Mercury, Pegasus Mail and the mailbox directories are run from  different system.  For example, if you use c:\mercury\queue for the Pegasus Mail submission queue and Pegasus Mail is being run from a different system it will try to write to the local hard drive and not find the directory.  In this case you would either need to set this to the UNC format in Mercury and then resend the data to Pegasus Mail or use pconfig.exe to edit the path to the queue directly.

This tells Mercury where to find/place the pmgate.sys

So, if I needed to change the location of the Pegasus Mail submission queue could I simply enter the new path to the mail submission (queue) directory (in UNC format) then hit "update configuration" instead of configuring it via PCONFIG?

Yes, if you did not use identities or did not care that the From: address would always be the same for a user.  I make a number of changes to my UDG so I never use the functions in Mercury to modify the UDG.

             Gateway name : [MERCURY         ]
           *New mail path :
   Is ↑ a program to run? :  N
    *New mail search mask :
      *Outgoing mail path :  \\tstephenson\c_drive\mercury\queue
   *Run for outgoing mail :
         *Filename format :  ~d~d.101
  Run to validate address :
    *Reply address format :  "~o" <~r>
  Accepts SMTP addresses? :  Y
Simple message headers? :  'Glue' headers
    UUEncode attachments? :  Y
          Burst messages? :  N    Gateway processes BCC? : N
      Strip gateway name? :  Y
Force all mail through? :  Y

The ~p is the personal name, ~o is the personal name with hi-bit characters, ~8 (or~n for names longer than 8 character) the account name.  The ~d is 4 hex characters
