You are installing in the Multiuser mode with the latest version, it's the default when you accept the defaults when  installing Pegasus Mail.  You use Addresses |  User management to add and delete users.

Hello I hope I am posting in the correct place.

I spent sometime searching this forum for any problems setting up Pegasus on a network and did not come across any posts, so I assume I am doing something wrong, so I am asking for some help.

I have been using Pegasus for many years and I find it's great. Now we have a PC and 2 laptops so I want to set it up so that we can access our mail from any computer.

The PC is running win 7 64 bit and the two laptops are on win 7 32 bit. I downloaded and installed the new Pegasus 4.52 (win32) onto the main PC then I selected "workgroups" when I first started the program. Then I transferred all our old Mail data to the new installation.

I then copied WSSetup.exe onto a memory stick to run on the laptops. I removed the old Pegasus from the laptop and then ran the WSSetup.exe on the laptop. I got the "Pegasus Mail Workstation Setup" page, I tried both with and without a Username, but once I click Setup all I get is an empty file location and an icon that when I click it I get the error "the Winpm-32.exe shortcut that this refers to has move or is no longer working".

So I tried down loading the full program onto the laptop then clicking the WSSetup.exe from the file location on the laptop, same results. Then I removed the program from the laptop, and I tried to go from the laptop via the network to the PC clicking the WSSetup.exe this way and still the same result.

On the PC Pegasus works fine but I can not seem to get it to work via the Laptop.

Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Rolf

Thanks for the reply and the link. Okay I read it over very indepth and a small section on installing for a network. I followed it as best as I could but still not setup to run pegasus from my laptop.

I have downloaded and installed pegasus on both the main PC and the laptop. It works fine on the PC.

When I first start pegasus on the laptop I get the option of 3 selection and I choose the last one Workgroups and networks. I then need to put in the path where the mailbox is so I go to my network connection on the laptop find the mailbox on the main PC and I copy and paste this \\MAIN-PC\Pmail\MAIL.

I then get create Initial Pegasus mail user with mailbox = \\MAIN-PC\Pmail\MAIL and current user I see the one I made in the first installation on the main PC call "Our" with a "*" infront so I see *Our. I select this and close then I get the error message "No such User" "The user you are attempting to 'become' (Our) does not exist on this system".

I then deleted PMAIL.CFG and tried again, same result.

So because of the Network Config notice the last paragraph "All users must be able to access the shared volume using the same drive letter (e.g. "K") " I deceide to try under "my computer" tool "map network drive" Again from the laptop I put the Drive letter to P and in the folder I go to network and find the shared folder on the Main PC Pmail\Mail I select this and I get the path P:\ as this folder on the laptop. So I remove the PMAIL.CFG again go through the whole process, when I get  to selection to put in the path for the mailbox I now try P:\ I then get "create Initial Pegasus mail user" with mailbox =P:\ . I again see the current user that I made in the first installation on the main PC call "Our" with a "*" infront. I select this then close and still I get the error message "No such User" "The user you are attempting to 'become' (Our) does not exist on this system".

So as best as I understand it at first setup on the laptop Pegasus does find the mailbox on the main PC but when I go to use Pegasus it does not find a user.

What am I doing wrong?

I am suppose to run WSsetup on the laptop but when do i do this?

If you could give me a step by step guide on what to do that would be a great help.

Thanks, and I lookforward to any help from anyone.

Use pconfig.exe on the laptop system and change the home and new mail directory spec from c:\pmail\mail\~8 to \\servername\sharename\pmail\mail\~8 so that the drive letter mapping is taken out of the equation.

There is also the possibility that you do not have the user in the pmail.usr file where the mailboxes are located.

Hello Thomas

Thanks for the reply.

First I tried to use pconfig.exe in "run" no such program on my computer.

I then looked for the USR file I found one in Pmail and one in Pmail\MAIL I opened both pmail.usr file it does seem to have the user "Our" As I said I did find this when setting up in the Laptop.

This is what I have in the PMAIL.CFG file on the PC;

E:\User\Pmail\MAIL\~N                                             E:\User\Pmail\MAIL\~N

and this is what is in the laptop.

\\MAIN-PC\USER\PMAIL\MAIL~8                              \\MAIN-PC\USER\PMAIL\MAIL~8

So once I finish the loading of the user and click close pegasus on the laptop say starting up please wait and nothing happends. I shut it down after 10 minutes.

STill not working via the net work.

I will be out of town for a week so if you don't hear from me that's why.

Look forward to more help next week.

Thanks

This should be \\servername\sharename\user\pmail\mail\~8, looks like you are missing the share name in the home and new mail directory spec.  Actually both should be using the UNC format to ensure the drive letter mapping does not affect the finding of the mail directories.

Hi again

Sorry but I do not understand what you are trying to say. What is share name? The paths that I gave where copy and pasted from the computer so what am I missing what should I look for.

What I would really like is a step by step procedure on how to set up pegasus on a network.

1 download and install Pegasus on first computer that will hold the MAIL fold. Where is the best place C drive?

2 run Pegasus to set it up as multi users on a network.

3 download and install Pegasus on second computer.

4 run Pegasus on second computer, also select multi users and network.

Is this correct so far?

What is the best way to insert the correct path to link the second computer to the MAIL folder?

Looking forward to any replies

Thank you.

>  What I would really like is a step by step procedure on how to set up pegasus on a network.

Here's is the basic setup, I've added in Mercury as well since it makes the most sense with this sort of setup.

1.  Install WinPmail in the multiuser mode on the "server".  Use c:\pmail for the program; c:\pmail\mail for the mail directories.

2.  Run PCONFIG.exe from the WinPMail program directory and change the HOME and NEW mail directory specification to the UNC \\server\sharenamel\pmail\mail\~8
format. The share name here is the name you gave it when creating the shared drive.

3.  Go to the remote workstations and install a shortcut to the common
    program.

Ok, now you have the basic mail system setup.  You can send mail to each other using Pegasus Mail.

4.  Install Mercury/32 on this same server pointing to the Pegasus Mail
directory structure.  Use MercuryD, MercuryS, MercuryC at least. Use
\\server\vol\mercury\queue for the mail spool directory.

5.  Point MercuryD at all of your POP3 mailboxes to download the mail to
    your Pegasus Mail user directories.

You now can send and receive Internet mail via Pegasus Mail.  The mail is delivered to the Pegasus Mail directories automatically.  You send mail simply but putting the output files into the Mercury/32 mail spool directory.  This is accomplished automatically with a Pegasus Mail User Defined Gateway.

6.  If you want to maintain other POP3/IMAP4 clients, point the client at
the at your Mercury/32 host as a POP3 and SMTP host using the Pegasus
Mail username and password to pickup the mail.

You can do a complete inbound and outbound mail archive with this setup using a simple Mercury/32 "Always" filter that put a copy in a users mail directory.

The alleged "multiuser mode" does not exist.  I have downloaded the latest version of Pegasus and no such option is shown during the install.  I've tried this on Windows 7, and Small Business Server 2008 -- downloading a fresh install each time from the web.

I'd sure like to know where or how to find the "multiuser mode".
