Messages sent to hotmail, gmail being marked as junk
Here is the log of me emailing a hotmail account.  It ended up in the receipients junk box.  My email has no rules or alias associated with it.

You said that you were changing the address in the message to info@.. and I do not see that change here.
I tried using my own account that has no rules or aliases setup.  I can recreate the same issue my customer is having with my own account. So I know it is not user specific and doesn't have anything to do with the alias I gave him.

Here is the SMTP Client Log of the email

Hi,

I'll try to post as much information as possible.

I've got my mail server setup as xyz.com.  We host a few websites so I have set up aliases and rules so that our clients can send from their @theirwebsite.com address so that the receipient does not see that it acutally comes from our xyz.com.

The problem that we are having is that unless you mark the @theirwebite.com address as 'not junk' in hotmail or gmail,  the emails will always be delivered to the receipient's junk mail.

Any help on this would be greatly appreiciated.

1.   Is all this real data?  There look like munged domain names and that is the most critical part of the problem.

 2.  Do you have a fixed IP address?  Are you sending with MercuryE?

I have a static IP through my ISP

Example names:
Mail Server : mycompany.com
Customer : customersite.com
ISP: isp.com

When my customers send an email they are logged on as customer@mycompany.com however I've set up a rule that changes the header so that the recipient will see info@customersite.com.
I've also set it up so that when people send emails to info@customersite.com it actually gets dilivered to customer@mycompany.com.
My customers use Outlook and Outlook Express.

This is my thought

--- Hotmail sees that info@customersite.com actually comes from customer@mycompany.com and thinks that it could possibly be spam.

This is just guess though.

I've also wondered if it is a DNS issue since my ip actually is owned by isp.com, I just rent a static IP.
I've tried setting up a dns on the server but I think my isp is blocking or intercepting any dns requests.

 I hope that makes sense.

Ok.

    mycompany.com, TXT, "v=spf1 ip4:208.239.76.0/24 ip4:208.197.37.0/24 a mx ~all"

Answer Section:
    34.76.239.208.IN-ADDR.ARPA, PTR, mycompany.com

All the records look normal here but the domain name looks spammy.

Answer Section:
    customersite.com, A, 216.239.34.21
    customersite.com, A, 216.239.32.21
    customersite.com, A, 216.239.36.21
    customersite.com, A, 216.239.38.21

No MX records here.

Answer Section:
    21.38.239.216.IN-ADDR.ARPA, PTR, any-in-2615.1e100.net

But it does have a PTR record.

Naw, not as long as the MAIL FROM address matches the From address.

Most of us just rent a fixed IP address from our ISP.

>  I hope that makes sense.

This does not make any sense.  I've never heard of any ISP blocking DNS requests.

What you really need to do is turn on session logging in the outbound client to find out exactly what the bounce looks like.

Those sites I gave were just an example, I didn't want to put in my real site but oh well.

    mail server: www.dcwebsolutions.ca
customer site: www.underrconstruction.ca
ISP: www.wightman.ca

hotmail doesn't reject the email completely, it just puts the message into the user's junk mail. I get a "message sent successfully" on the server.  I'll try and figure out how to turn on session logging on the outbound client and post what I get.

Why not.  You are asking for help and hiding the only information needed for some one to provide the help.

>     mail server: www.dcwebsolutions.ca
> customer site: www.underrconstruction.ca

I hope you are not using www... for a domain name on e-mail, that's spammy at best.

    dcwebsolutions.ca, MX, 10, www.dcwebsolutions.ca
    dcwebsolutions.ca, MX, 20, mx2.netfirms.com
    dcwebsolutions.ca, A, 216.110.252.42
    42.252.110.216.IN-ADDR.ARPA, PTR, static.v80.216.110.252.42.wightman.ca

These look good.  Best to point PTR record to dcwebsolutions.ca but this works with 99% of the hosts including Hotmail.

    underrconstruction.ca, MX, 10, www.dcwebsolutions.ca
    underrconstruction.ca, MX, 20, mx2.netfirms.com
    underrconstruction.ca, A, 67.23.129.217

This one does not have a PTR record so the rDNS will fail and this alone will cause some systems to classify mail as spam.

In either MercuryE or MercuryC you just open the protocol configuration, enter a path for the session log and check the option.

It looks like I forgot to set the point the A record to my ip, done now.

Here is the log of me emailing a hotmail account.  It ended up in the receipients junk box.  My email has no rules or alias associated with it.

I truely appreciate your help and patience with me and this issue.  The tech support you give for us is the reason we purchased Mercury.
