Mailing Lists on a DM domain

The mail for a mailing list uses the list name and the domain as listed in Configuration | Mercury core | "Internet name for this system" and that should never be a domain mail box.  To address a mailing list is will be <listname.from lists.mer>@<internet.name.for.this.system>

I'm not sure what you are doing here with the dummy domain to get access to the lists.

Greetings!

I am hosting a domain for a local non-profit using a dm= line in the mercury core module.  That works beautifully.  Now I'm trying to create a mailing list for their membership using their domain name.  The mailing list works just fine if sent to list@mydomain but is ignored if sent to list@theirdomain.

Evidently Mercury process the dm= line before checking for a mailing list.  I've tried to come up with a work around using an alias with no joy.  Any assistance would be appreciate!

 Thanks!

I have come up with a partial solution ....

From this posting, I have verified that the dm= entry is indeed processed prior to the mailing list entry.  Frankly, this is a bug IMHO.

To work around it, I created a dummy domain.  Using the alias feature, which is processed before anything else, I pointed the mailing list to a mailing list address in a dummy domain.  The mailing list itself was marked as "is a full address" using the dummy domain name.  The last step was to add the dummy domain name to Mercury core module's list of domains.

At this point, mail sent to list@theirdomain is processed as list@theirdomain.dummy and the mail is properly forwarded to everyone on the mailing list.  The only problem with this "solution" is that nobody can easily reply to the list.  Hitting reply in the email client sends mail to list@theirdomain.dummy, which, of course, has no DNS resolution.  Not a problem in my situation, but others may not agree.

Hopefully this post has been helpful to others in a similiar situation.

Thanks!
