A simple question, about a quite common situation, perhaps, but I've not found an answer, only for other cases, or the standard suggestion in the manual (how to move files).
I am going install Pegasus on a new hard disk drive, with several partitions. At the moment it is used on a hard disk also with several partitions, and it works all OK. The difference is the number of partitions on the old and new drive, thus a change in drive letter.
The old setup is a single-user mode with Pegasus on the system drive (C) and the mail folder on another partition, such as:
WINPMAIL.EXE directory: C:\Program\PMAIL\Programs
Home mailbox location: F:\PMAIL\MAIL
New mailbox location: F:\PMAIL\MAIL
The above is what is found in the Info dialogue (the .cfg file), as well as in pmail.ini. I have never used different users.
During a test on the new HDD I did the following:
I copied the F:\PMAIL (which contains the mail folder per above) to E:\PMAIL on the new HDD (including all files and folders in F:\PMAIL\MAIL).
I installed Pegasus on the system volume on the new HDD, and deselected the "preconfigure a user mailbox" option.
On the first run I selected single-user as operating mode; and pointed it to the mail folder I had copied and created in the first step above.
Everything worked, or seemed to work, it showed all mails and folders; about info points to the new location; E:\PMAIL\MAIL.
However, with Pegasus closed, I notice that the Home mailbox location isn't updated in pmail.ini; it still says F:\PMAIL\MAIL.
The above was a test run; I have not done the final move yet.
I have seen some posts mention to copy everything except pmail.ini; maybe I'm missing something completely here, and I can't test that at the moment, if so, what happens to all preferences, identities? And in this case: does it matter what the pmail.ini says if the about info dialogue (.cfg) point to the correct location?
