How to Rename a Mailing List in Mercury

After getting some advice from James Haley, previously a server admin here, I went ahead and edited the lists.mer file and copy and pasted the entries from the previous mlf file to the new one. It appears that is working.

I am currently on Mercury/32, v4.51

What is the best way to rename a mailing list?

I can obviously make the changes to the name/membership name, title, membership file, and archive file in the GUI. I am guessing that this won't fly though and I will also need to manually change the names of the dependent files that belong to this list.

I am also guessing that I should "Enter offline mode" before making any changes. After doing that is it safe to edit file names, etc. or should I have the Mercury program completly closed before making edits?

Thanks in advance!
