Can't open Pegasus in Windows 7

If someone else has this issue in Win7+, try disabling the  following settings in your network adaptor - helped my performance a hell of a lot:

"Large transfer offload" for Ipv4 and IPv6 if you use the latter.

See another post I've made on a similar "slow" topic for an explanation.

I am using the following:

Windows 7 Pro 32-bit - with all current patches applied

Pegasus 4.61

On a network running Novell 5.5 (client we are using on Windows 7 boxes is Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7 IR5) and with a Windows 2003 SP2 mailserver running Mercury 4.72

Both server and client PC are running ESET NOD32 antivirus.

When I try and open Pegasus on the client machine, it hangs with message "Locating Folders...0" displayed and eventually times out, with a Windows error message saying the program has stopped working. This only happens if the user has a significant number of mail folders (say 20+ folders with a few thousand mail between them) in their h:\pmail folder. If I move the mail folders out of the user's h:\pmail directory and leave say three or four smallish folders only (say a few hundred email in total) then Pegasus starts without a problem.

I should add that Pegasus is working fine for the same user with the same number of folders (20+ etc) on client machines running Windows XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Duncan

Did you declare your NDS as intranet in the internetoptions of Win7? There should be something like file://<nds-name>

Don't have that problem (NW65 SP7 with Mercury/NLM).

May be there is a difference in behaivior of antivirus software on WinXp and Win7 too. We only scan  Pegasusdirectory on write ... not on read.

Check the client cache information in the Novell client.  I presume you are talking about NetWare 6.5.  There have been various client issues with the Win7 Novell client.

Hi Tom

Thanks for your reply. I was talking about Netware 5.5 not 6.5. We have tried with and without caching as suggested in the link you posted but it makes no difference.

Dear Olaf

Thank you for your reply.

I don't think its an AV issue as everything works provided there aren't too many folders. If AV was the issue I'd expect it to never work.

We didn't declare our NDS as intranet. I've just tried that and hey presto, worked like a charm. I've yet to check every account but it definitely worked for the first couple I tried. Many thanks for the suggestion.
