HTML email composed with GMail crashing PMail :-(

This problem is fixed in Bearhtml 4.6.5 which is having final testing before being loaded onto Community.

I'm running the latest version of Pmail and was trying to view an html email I created with Gmail and it crashes Pmail before displaying. I composed the email for someone to demonstrate that Gmail can be used to add all sorts of formatting to an email. They wanted to create HTML email (which does not interest me) and insisted they could  create bulleted items with Outlook Express (yuck) and Gmail would not let them. So I popped into my Gmail account and composed an example of an email that used most of the features available - as a demo. I cc'd myself to see how it would render with Pmail v 4.6.1. The text version displayed just fine. But as soon as I hit the Fancy/plain button the html version crashed Pegasus.

Any Idea if I'm doing something wrong, or if I should forward the email to someone on the dev team?

Send a copy to techsupp@tstephenson.com direct from GMail if you can.  You can zip up the crashing *.CNM file in Pegasus Mail and send it along as well.  I'll test this and if it crashes I'll send a copy to the debug address for Michael to work with.  In any case I'll report here what happens.

Which Internet Explorer version is installed on your system?

I would like a copy too please irelam@telus.net)  to test with Bearhtml.  Please indicate which level of Pegasus Mail you are using, and whether you are using IERenderer or Bearhtml to display your html messages.

Thanks

Done. I also cc'd irelam@telus.net and attached the offending CNM file (zipped up)

Using IE 9.0.8122.16421 on this computer. Though I was composing the Email w/Gmail using Firefox 4.0, Vista Home Premium w/SP2 on this laptop.

The original message I sent crashes with both IERenderer or Bearhtml. But when I copied and pasted the contents of the same email and resent to myself that second version only crashes w/ IERenderer and displays ok with Bearhtml. What I sent you is another cut and paste from GMail so I'm not sure what it will do on your setups.

I replied to you directly but I had no problem at all reading the GMail formatted message.

I was just at my desktop computer, opened the same emails and they render just fine with both IERenderer and Bearhtml. So it would seem that it's not occurring on every system.

My laptop uses Vista32 while my desktop uses Vista64. I boot both from SSDs. The desktop system can also boot Win7 (I swap the SSDs) and both OSs share the same Pmail folders stored on a hard disk they share. I'll check tomorrow to see if Win7(64) has any problems with it.

One difference I note is that my desktop system is using a slightly older version of IE9 (the RC instead of the RTM). The desktop is also a much more powerful system with lots of RAM and a high end video card. Though an email program shouldn't really care as much about that ...

I got this one and again  I had no problem at all opening it in v4.61.

64-bit doesn't matter here, what matters is IE's version: The most recent published version of IERenderer can handle IE 9 RC while Microsoft broke it again when releasing the official IE 9: I'm already working on it, a test version should become available this weekend.

That would explain it. Glad to hear it's a known issue and a fix is in progress.
