This should take 5 minutes.  The biggest problem I had just now was with entering the word verification.  ;-)  Why are you asking us anyway, just give it a shot and come back with questions if you have problems.

None that I can see.  You have to go into the GMail settings and turn on POP3 access if you want to use it but that's pretty straight forward.  Here's the POP3 settings, I would use the SSL direct connect as long as the ports are open where you are using it.  This is especially true since GMail does not support STLS for POP3.

(a) -POP3-

  Server host name: pop.gmail.com
  User name: <your_user_name>@gmail.com
  Password: <your_password>
  Server TCP/IP port: 995
  SSL/TLS: via direct SSL connect
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: unchecked

(b) -SMTP STARTTLS -

  Server host name: smtp.gmail.com
  Server TCP/IP port: 587
  SSL/TLS: via STARTTLS
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: checked
SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3
username/password (the GMAIL-POP3-definition has been chosen)

(c) - SMTP via SSL -

  Server host name: smtp.gmail.com
  Server TCP/IP port: 465
  SSL/TLS: via direct ssl connection
Enable server certificate fingerprint tracking: unchecked
SMTP Authentication: Login to the SMTP server using POP3
username/password (the GMAIL-POP3-definition has been chosen)

(d) - IMAP4 via SSL -

  Server host name: imap.gmail.com
  User name: <your_user_name>@gmail.com
  Password: <your_password>
  Server TCP/IP port: 993
  SSL/TLS: via direct SSL connect

Can I get a couple of pointers to threads and FAQs about using Pegasus to work with Yahoo Mail ?

My plan is to install Pegasus on a memory stick and then use various Wi-Fi Hotspots for internet access.

If you haven't already done so download and install Pmail to your thumb drive making sure you use the -ROAM option.

You will be asked to configure a mailbox and you can then use the settings provided by Yahoo.

The first thing you need to do is get Yahoo Plus the paid version (~$20/year) so you can have access to the POP3 and SMTP host.  After that you use servers plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com to send and receive the mail.  The servers use SSL connections.  You need to always be using the Yahoo e-mail address as the SMTP MAIL FROM address, after that the From: address can be anything..

Might be better to use GMail since it's POP3 access is free.

Oooops,,,, didn't know about that POP3 stuff regarding the YahooMail as opposed to GMail.

I'm trying to access a couple of yahoo groups and I think they will let me add a GMail account as the point of contact. Not sure. Must check.

I also have my other E-mail from my regular domain registrar and host.

I have deliberately avoided GMail up to this point. It may be a useful thing to use now.

Suggestions are welcome on other free E-mail addresses with the POP3 (or whatever I might need) access.

So anyway, I will now be fetching E-mail from...

-- Wherever I can get Yahoo Groups to send the daily digest stuff

-- My list of a bunch of addresses which do my forwarding scheme

I saw another thread on Pegasus and GMail. Is that thread relevant to my interests here ?

Thanks for any response

No problem, all my Yahoo Groups mail is forwarded to non-Yahoo e-mail accounts.  Some is downloaded via POP3 by my mercury server.

You can tell GMail to get the mail from other accounts for you if you wish.

Why??  It's probably the best of the bunch.  They are a bit more honest than most about what.

You can setup a number of other GMail accounts or authorize other e-mail addresses as authorized addresses for sending.

How much time would you estimate for a clueless newbee to set up a GMail account ? Assume brains at the median level, no genius, no dunce.

Are there any special tricks or traps I need to observe ?
