Problem with Mail Folders

It just forces Pegasus Mail to create a new hierarch.pm file. Hierarch.bak can be deleted once you're sure you don't miss any of the structure contained in it (as Pegasus Mail cannot recreate trays without reading the old herarch.pm if you had some at all).

I have just lost sight (I hope it's only this) of my Mail Folders.  If I open up my Pegasus 4 in the normal way, I get a screen of the current New Mail Folder. But if I then click on the yellow folder icon, there is no response. Nor is there any response if I press Ctrl+L.

I wonder what I need to do to find these many Mail Folders.  Grateful for any advice,

 What happens if you double-click on one of the yellow folder icons?

If I double click on the yellow Folder icon... no response, I'm afraid.

I would suggest you try a few things. First exit winpm-32 and use task manager to make sure you only have/dad one instance running. Then use win explorer or command line from command prompt if you are familiar and comfortable there. Navigate to your home mail folder location and just visually verify that the *.pmm and *.pmi file pairs are still there. Those are your messages folders. Any new mail messages not yet filed in regular folders are *.cnm files in your new mail location.

Then in your home mail folder location rename hierarch.pm to hierarch.bak and then restart winpm-32 and do you now see messages folders again?

WinPMail can't work with files marked R attribute at system level. Did you do any backup software or any copy to and from any cdrom that may have marked all files R (read only). All c:\pmail  and below should be read/write files permissons.

Thanks for your reply.  But I have to say that I am technically stretched and challenged by it!!

I don't know how to exit winpm-32 (other than to close down Pegasus). I open and close it and the same problem persists every time. I shut down and reopen the computer and ditto.

I have used Windows explorer to open PMAIL, then MAIL, then ADMIN. I find there a full listing of PMM and PMI files in pairs as you say.  I notice some are very large (and wonder if this might be the cause of the problem).  Over the years I simply add to these folders all the time.  I see a fair few cnm files, which I assume correspond to those in my New Mail Folder (which will still open and close normally).

I can see the full listing of my Folders if I want to Move or Copy any file from my New Mail Folder.  But they simply refuse to open when I ask for it by the yellow icon or CTRL+L.

Certainly you should update to the latest version, but before doing so you can backup, (i.e. copy) your mail directory (C:\Pmail\Mail) to another location.

Eureka!  Its reappeared. I plucked up courage to seek and find hierarch.pm and to change it to hierarch.bak.  (I have no idea what this change means or tries to do). While it didn't solve it at once, when I turned off and rebooted the whole computer, then it worked. I had also fiddled with the Window display on Pegasus, but I don't think this did anything.
