We are running a mix of machines in our office

Since last night, when a general Microsoft update ran on our office machines Vista and Win7

no machine  ( 7 in total ) that was updated will open Pegasus. Well it opens but when you try to do anything the programme crashes.

Has anyone else noticed this  ?

If we open the same mailbox on a machine that didn't update ( mostly  XP's and some vista's with no auto update Pegasus opens fine

So far have not got to the bottom of this

I just checked my laptop (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit), which got the full slew of MS updates this morning.  I've opened PMail, looked at my IMAP mailbox, opened and forwarded msgs, deleted a msg - nothing seems out of the ordinary.  No crashes.

Do we know which of Microsoft's offerings (os, ie etc) were affected by the updates.  This is probably relevant to Pmail and its developers.

The crash report was off  of a Win 2008 sever 64bit with IE9 ( IE 9 was added as part of the update package  )

Other machine that updated with the full MS update package were

Visa Business Win7 business 32 and 64bit with IE 9 note IE 9 was upgraded as part of the MS update package

The only machine that updated and still run Pegasus was  a Win XP machine with IE 8

All other machines that didn't update Vista ,  Win7, win 2003 server, or  XP still run Pegasus 4.61 fine

I have the same problem:

When downloading new messages, Pmail crashes when pointing the mouse on a message (not every message!). I just installed IE9 and the problem occured after that, so it is possible that there is a connection. I use a stand alone pc, windows vista.  Bug report:

I think the current advice is to either disable or uninstal IERenderer until these issues are resolved.

You should also ensure you have the latest copy of BearHTML installed. (See download section)

Pmail users should be aware also that v4.61 now incorporates the Minidump (exception reporting) Tool, which should be useful in identifying the cause(s) of the exceptions.

Ours is network run so

I renamed IErender.dll to IErender.dllold

then patched bear html into Mail/programmes

We are now back in action too

So I guess it's IE v9 that's the problem

It is due to changes in IE9. IERenderer uses the engine of IE, not the browser, and there is a newer version of IERenderer that does work with IE9. Download and that version and you can then reenable IERenderer on Vista, Win7 or newer OS's. XP and older are not effected since they can't run or install IE9 anyhow.

It is not a Pegasus Mail problem, it is one of Microsoft's own doing and users selecting to install the  optional update. IE9 was not in the critical updates section but is optional for Vista and newer users. IE8 and Pegasus Mail and IERenderer did and still do work just fine. Users may or may not have already been offered IE9 and selected to install it beforehand and would also encounter same difficulty and need to do the same fix of choice.

The update may be downloaded from http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/community_add-ons_for_pegasus_mail/entry24145.aspx, but some people (usually IE 8 users, surprisingly) seem to encounter other kinds of crashes after installing the update which I couldn't fix so far. They usually seem to involve other interfering software (such as firwalls or AV scanners).
