There is one added by Mercury just before putting the mail into a users mailbox that is the X-Envelope-To: header.  You cannot use this one but there my be one showing one of the following or similar.

X-Rcpt-To: <email@address>
X-Recipient: <email@address>
X-Deliver-To: <email@address>

It's what the original receiving SMTP server writes to the message to show the original RCPT TO address of the message before it writes it to a POP3 mailbox just like Mercury does with the X-Envelope-To: header.

If there is not then you do have some problems and the postmaster is going to spend a lot of time forwarding mail when there is no local address in the message.

Hi All,

Due to a problem with v4.73 I've decided to rollback to 4.72 but I'm unsure how to do it without losing recent changes. Any advice would be most welcome.

I have Mercury installed on an XP machine. The problem I have is mail sometimes being delivered to the wrong mailbox.

Dave.

Update to the problem - Mercury is installed on a Win7 PC not XP as stated!

You'll have to give us more information on your configuration and what you did in the upgrade.

Where is Mercury installed and where is the previous working version installed?

Win7 has some extra challenges about where you can install programs and data as well as permission issues.

I haven't seen or heard of any problems with messages being delivered to the wrong mailbox in 4.73, so please post more details about it. If it's a bug it should be fixed.

Hi Paul,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I will reply

to you on Dave’s behalf.

We did a

sideways copy of the original c:\mercury folder as a backup and then ran the

4.73 setup file which gave an option to upgrade the installed version which

was selected.

It is a

Windows 7 x32 machine with the firewall currently disabled.

As far as

permissions go, SYSTEM, The Logged on User and all Administrators have full permissions

over the mercury folder.

Mercury

itself is running as a service using the mercury loader.

Other than

the above no changes have been made

Do any of the affected mailboxes have unusual names - long or with accented characters?

And can you give more details on what was being misdelivered - always to the same address, or from the same address etc.?

Hi Paul,

All mailboxes have short names and none have accented or non alpha characters.

Though I can't be 100% sure the misdirected mail seems to be going to my mail box only. The mail in question is from various sources but always external. At first it was only mail with 'dave' or david' in the address (my address starts 'david' and mailbox is 'dwi') but more recently I've received mail for various other addresses without my name in them.

I was originally set as the postmaster, so we changed that but I'm still getting the mail.

Regards

 Dave.

How are you receiving the mail?  MercuryS?  MercuryD?

If via MercuryD are you using a Domain type mailbox?  Are you using a header that contains the original RCPT TO address for delivery?

We use MercuryD to collect the mail. It is a domain type mailbox.

I don't know what you mean be the 'original RCPT TO address for delivery', how do I tell?

We have just discovered that since installing 4.73 we have been running Mercury as a service as well as using Mercury Loader as a start up.

We have switched off the service and are now monitoring the situation.

Could this of had an effect on the problem?

With a domain 'catch-all' mailbox Mercury has to try to discover which user each email is meant for.  Not all messages show the recipient in th 'To:' address, so the mailserver you collect from may put the address in a separate header like 'X-Envelope-To:' or similar.  Mercury should then use that header for distributing the mail.  Any which can't be allocated like that is put in the mailbox of the name in 'default user' in the MercuryD configuration - which may be yours.

It certainly will produce some strange results if you have 2 copies of Mercury running using the same configuration.

Give it a while and see if that improves the situation.
