Problem with DNS

Figured out after some digging that I was running IIS in the background, turned it off and now the world makes more sense.  Thanks for everything![Y]

Currently I'm testing Mercury Mail for the company I work for and have run into a slight problem that we can't seem to resolve.  The e-mails that send to our current server either send as GeneralEmailAddress or GeneralEmailAddress@hostUnfortunately we have been unable to set-up Mercury to recieve from both types of e-mail addresses.  Whenever GeneralEmailAddress or GeneralEmailAddress@www.xxx.yyy.zzz (the IP of the machine) is used the core module resolves the host as local, but when we use GeneralEmailAddres@host the core module resolves as non-local and passes the email directly to the client.

Machine: Virtual Machine of Windows XP sp3

Modules: Core, SMTP Server S, SMTP Client C

- In appreciation

Looks like the domain and/or host name is not correct.  Let us see a copy of your mercury.ini file and provide us with real host and e-mail address info.

The form of a literal address like this is user@[<IP address>] or in this case

engmonitor-01a@[10.2.13.96] without any spaces at all

Ok, I assume there is no real host name or IP address except this internal IP address.

This really should look something like

[Domains]

Server : Server
Server : [10.2.13.96]

With this setup any e-mail message received with the domain [10.2.13.96] will be considered local and will be delivered to a local user if one exists.

In the case of the e-mail address engmonitor-01a@[10.2.13.96] there must be a directory user C:\MERCURY\MAIL\engmonitor-01a and the name must also be in the C:\MERCURY\MAIL\PMAIL.USR file.  Use Configuration | Manage local users to verify.

I'm no expert but I think your domains are not set up correctly.

Your server will have a domain name that you have set, let's call it yourdomain for now.
What I would expect to see in in the [Domains] section is

[Domians]
yourdomain: yourdomain
yourdomain: yourdomain.com
yourdomain: 10.2.13.96
yourdomain: host
yourdomain: anything-else-you-want-to-be-delivered-locally.com

So yourdomain is the name of your local server, anything on the right is the domain name of any thing you want to deliver locally.

For example if you send mail to GeneralEmailAddress@10.2.13.96 or GeneralEmailAddress@yourdomain.com it will deliver it locally, if you send it to GeneralEmailAddress@yourdomain.co.uk it will assume it's non-local.

Hope that helps.

Dave

It worked perfectly Dave, thanks!

Sometimes after I modify part of Mercury the SMTP server stops recieving messages and I have to overwrite the whole directory from an earlier directory that I saved and packed away.  Is this a common problem or am I just missing something?
