Pegasus Mail POP3 Transfer Timeouts...

Thanks to Thomas, the problem has been resolved.

Turns out that it was a conflict with the NVidia nForce 780i chipset on my motherboard causing the problems.  When I disabled TCP checksum unloading, it began working - and with the 64-bit processor and OS, it updates quicker than ever!

I have a rather unusual problem, that I'm hoping for some assistance with...

I'm working on transferring my EMail setup to my new computer, which is running the 64-bit version of Win7 Pro.  So far, I have my spam filter working properly, and while Pegasus Mail will SEND messages without problem, it constantly gives timeout errors when I try to download my messages.  The Error Report window gives me the following transaction...

I've tried deleting the folder and starting clean, but I get the same problems no matter what I've tried.

Further - when I try to download the EMails using Eudora, it performs the transfer without incident.  So I'm guessing that it's not a fault at my POP3 servers' end.

   Any ideas...?  [^o)]

There was a previous discussion about such a problem  here.

The thread doesn't contain a resolution but the advice is relevant.

Start by increasing the timeout and then go to the log option if that is unsuccessful.

It doesn't look like the download actually fails: Where did you install Pegasus Mail resp. your mailbox? Please check out some advice ...

I used the log option, and found that it was reporting a 'socket read timeout'.  I tried setting the timeout to 120 seconds, but still had the same problem.

The main cause for my confusion is that transfers work fine when I run Eudora, but not Pegasus.  If it were a fault within the dll, neither would work.  A packet problem would also result in error messages in both - would it not...?

Not necessarily, Eudora may not be using non-blocking sockets.  Try using the following commandline option.

1024    Use blocking sockets; may be needed for some defective WINSOCK implementations.

Right-click, selected "Properties" and modify the command line (called Target in the German version, don't know about yours).

Tried that - there seems to be an issue with the command enclosed in quotes.  When I use "C:/Pegasus Mail/Programs/winpm-32.exe -Z1024" I get a message that indicates that Windows can't find the specified program.

When I use "C:/Pegasus Mail/Programs/winpm-32.exe" -Z1024 , I still get the timeout errors.

You might need to add a blank space like this: -Z 1024.

After launching Pegasus Mail you can check the active options via Help => About Pegasus Mail => Info, it should show these lines:

Commandline: -Z 1024

Active -Z options: 33792

Yup - adding the space worked.  I'm seeing what you said I should in the Info window.

However... the timeout problem persists. What version of WinSock do you have on your setup...?  Mine reports V2.0... in case there may be compatability issues with a newer version...?

If you didn't mess around with it there shouldn't be a problem on any current Windows version.

Hence my dilemma...  [:S]  I did nothing except upgrade to Win7 Pro 64-bit, and transferred my Pegasus Mail installation using Easy Transfer.  It worked fine with XP, so why doesn't it work now...?

At this point, I'm wondering if I should maybe try copying my mailbox to an external drive, do a clean re-install of Win7, and install Pegasus again from scratch...

You didn't reply to my post about checking the installation path: If you "transferred" your installation from XP to Windows 7 this may very well be a reason for problems if you didn't take into account the "user access control" features Windows 7 enforces as opposed to Windows XP (although the symptom is a rather unusual one IMO).
