new crash
Yes, this machine still has IE6.  (Maybe I should update to IE9 now.  I always resisted updating to IE7 because it was even worse than IE6 and ran the risk of messing up settings for QuickLaunch, default mailer and default browser.)
IE 9 isn't available for XP, but I've been using IE 8 on my XP machine without any troubles - well, my default browser being Opera, of course ...

And: The "drop target" error is an IE 6 error returned by the different zoom handling it provides. BTW, here's MS' comment about this error ...:

This behavior is by design. The following OLECMDID values are not defined for use by the IWebBrowser2::ExecWB() method: [...]

Clearly something about drop targets, I guess ...

Dear Michael et al.,

Here's a reproducible crash.  HTML message received (including a stretch pasted in by the sender from MS Word - one should always be alarmed when "MS Word" and "HTML" occur in the same sentence!).  I click Reply and choose to preserve original formatting.  I add some text at the top, and then I scroll down through the message and delete blank lines between paras to save space.  On deleting a particular blank line, PMail vanishes.

Win XP Pro x64 SP2

PMail 4.61, IMAP mailbox

MiniDump for PMail 2.5.5.7

IERenderer 2.4.4.2

On clearing the mailbox lock and restarting PMail, there is no saved minidump message, only the message I was trying to edit.  There is a zero-length dump file in my TEMP folder.  I can reproduce this crash at will.

If instead I open PMail using the minidump Catch All option, a phantom crash is signalled on loading IERenderer (the notorious "Trying to revoke a drop target that has not been registered" nonsense).  A zero-length dump file is stored on disk, but PMail has not in fact crashed and goes on to function normally.  And what's more, the above sequence of editing actions doesn't appear to provoke a crash.

Is this something new or something predictable?  Happy to send you the offending message as a zipped .CNM file if needed.

best

David

This is most probably a TER/HTS related issue (and it might be fixed in the current beta since it provides a new TER/HTS version), but I'm surprised that MiniDump fails with zero bytes files so often on your machine. Aside from this you should use its Catch All option only on special request since it may create lots of dump files slowing down Pegasus Mail to an unbearable extent. You may always run it's "normal" debugging mode (using the Debug Pegasus Mail shortcut), though, I'm doing it all the time which usually enables it to reliably catch random crashes which might escape the simple MiniDump extension library.

And yes, please provide the test message for further investigation to me and/or the beta reports account. BTW: I'm working on the error message issue you (and a few other users) reported ...

BTW, for working on the "drop target" error: Do you have IE 6 installed on your machine?

Yes, this machine still has IE6.  (Maybe I should update to IE9 now.  I always resisted updating to IE7 because it was even worse than IE6 and ran the risk of messing up settings for QuickLaunch, default mailer and default browser.)
