I'm late to the party here, but the problem is that when you just "delete" messages (at least, with default settings), they get moved to the "deleted" folder, which takes about 1 second per message.  Another option is to "select all," and then hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the Delete button (or pressing the delete key on your keyboard).  That bypasses the deleted mail folder and makes deletion of even a large number of messages almost instantaneous.

For some reason Pegasus mail was creating 100's of copies of every email it downloaded.

I may have fixed that, but now I have 20,000+ junk emails that I want to delete.

Is Pegasus as big a POS as it seems on my first exposure to it, or am I doing something wrong.

 Generally Pegasus seems amazingly slow.  It take several seconds to respond to key clicks on my very fast Windows 7 machine, with no other significant tasks running...

I have seen this happen sometimes with Pegasus Mail. It can happen when deleting and when moving messages between folders.

The solution is to open the destination folder - Deleted Messages in your case - before starting the delete operation.

If you provide more information about your system setup and what else is running on your computer, you might just get a little help regarding the general running of Pegasus Mail. Anti-virus settings, behavioural analysis programs, monitoring software etc., all impact SMTP delivery and receipt and need to be configured accordingly.

If Tools => Options => Advanced settings => Load Windows Internet Services set to Always? If not you should do so and restart Pegasus Mail.

If they are all in the new mail folder and nothing you need to keep in the new mail folder  then use Help | About Pegasus Mail | info and note the NEW mail directory.  Go to the new mail directory and delete all the *.cnm files.
