How do I install multiple users........

I think that this post gives instructions to do what I need to do.  Thanks.  I did want to add this from another post as I have Windows 7 and I think others may bump into this too:

"Also, pconfig.exe is a 16 bit DOS app which will not run on a 64 bit OS.  Options are to run it using a DOS emulator like DOSBOX or run it on an XP machine then copy the resulting pmail.cfg to the Pegasus Mail on a 64 bit machine."

....I'm at a complete loss.  I have four people on one domain and two on two others.  We need to write outgoing messages on different accounts (SMTP) but get all incoming POP3 messages at the same. I have made some erroneous attempts at adding mailboxes but now can't find them to delete them.

I also don't seem to find where I can select to leave or not leave incoming mails on th server.  I'm using v 4.52 on Windows 7 - another poor sap having to find a decent email client having bought a new laptop and losing Outlook Express on WXP.   RIP XP.

1.  Install WinPmail in the multiuser mode on the "server".  Use c:\pmail
for the program; c:\pmail\mail for the mail directories.

2.  Run PCONFIG.exe from the WinPMail program directory and change the HOME and
NEW mail directory specification to the \\server\vol\pmail\mail\~8
    format.

3.  Go to the remote workstations and install a shortcut to the common
    program.

Tools | Internet options | (Receiving)POP3, edit the POP3 setup and select downlooad controls.

Download only unread mail  The usual practice when retrieving mail from a POP3 host is to delete it from the host when it is successfully downloaded. If you do not delete it, you would normally expect to see it again the next time you download mail from the host. Pegasus Mail incorporates a powerful and complicated facility which allows you to leave mail on the POP3 host without deleting it, but only download mail you haven't already seen. Because the POP3 protocol does not actually provide this facility, there are some limitations on this command, the most specific being that if you run Pegasus Mail on more than one machine, each one will have a separate list of what you have already seen; so, if you download mail using one machine then access your account later from a different machine, you will probably get the mail you downloaded the first time again, where downloading the mail on the same machine you originally used would only show mail which had arrived since the last time you accessed your account. Check this control to instruct Pegasus Mail to attempt to download only mail you have not read. The effect of this control is probably meaningless if you do not also uncheck the "Delete retrieved mail on host" control. Using this feature can significantly increase the time it takes for Pegasus Mail to retrieve your new mail.

How do I get this option?  I am not offered any alternative at download.  I've repeatedly deleted & removed previous downloads and have tried again but am begining to give up.

Have you stopped to view the Help or the install Help?

Did you find information including:

An overview of the installation and setup process

Installing Pegasus Mail on your computer or Network is typically a
two-step process.

In the first step, which you are taking now, the Pegasus Mail program
files are installed into a directory on your computer, and icons are
added to the Windows 'Start' menu so you can run the program. During
this process, changes are made to the Windows Registry (a kind of
"system database" Windows uses to keep track of settings and programs)
that allow your web browser to use Pegasus Mail, and a small utility is
installed that allows you to use the Windows Explorer "Send to..."
command to send files via Pegasus Mail.

The second stage of the installation process varies slightly depending
on whether you are connecting to a Novell NetWare Local Area Network, or
else are installing the program on a single computer, or on a Windows
"Peer-to-Peer" or Windows NT network.

Single computer: the second stage of the installation process will
happen the first time you run Pegasus Mail itself: at this stage,
Pegasus Mail asks you whether or not there will be multiple users
running the program, and where it should store their mail-related files.
If you choose to have multiple users, you are also given the opportunity
to create your initial group of mail users at this point.

Thank you - yes I have read the help files and I know I am supposed to be posed the question whether or not there will be multiple users  .......... but I am not asked the question so I cannot set it up for multiple users.   I have deleted, rebooted, re-installed, hoped and prayed.   But I don't get the question.   And I have no idea what is a Novell Netware LAN.   It's a single laptop using WIMAX broadband.

You are installing in the multiuser mode, that is the default since v4.x.  You add new users through the Addresses | User management.

The basic structure is

c:\pmail\programs            the program
c:\pmail\mail                    the pmail.usr file
c:\pmail\mail\admin          the default admin user
c:\pmail\mail\USER1
.
.                                      the users
.
c:\pmail\mail\USERn

but if I do as you say, when I come to write a new message I do not have any choice of which account or name is sending the message.  Surely there should be a drop down allowing me to choose who is the originatior of the message?

I have a feeling that you'd be better off using Identities rather than multiuser mode. You can set up many different identities, each with their own settings (including pop and smtp) and decide at the time of sending mail which one to use. You can even associate Identities with mail folders, so I'd say check out the help file on the use of this feature.

Cheers!
