Network Configuration Question

[quote user="Eshtaol"]

when I check host for new mail it says (at bottom) "connecting to outgoing.verizon.net"

Can't figure what's wrong

Looks like you have the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) servers in the wrong definitions.

When you check for new mail you should be connecting to the POP3 server "incoming.verizon.net".

I have questions on the configuration used

under file. my provider is verizon

When using the wizard to configure, under general, my email address is placed and correct

then I will proceed to use wizard. Under receiving POP3 I have placed incoming.verizon

My sending SMTP  I have placed  outgoing.verizon

I placed everything else as requested including password and finished BUT

when I try to check host fo mail it says (at bottom) "connecting to outgoing.verizon.net"

Can't figure what's wrong

Should the server names not be incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net?

Should the server names not be incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net?

[quote user="Eshtaol"]How should it normally be?

Thats what I am asking you.

Are the server names server.verizon or server.verizon.net?

What instructions do you have from the provider re server names and access protocols?

Using the Wizard. Under receiving POP3 it just asks for the address of your POP3 server.

"address will not contain an @ symbol.

the next step it will ask for the address of your SMTP server and says same about @

as mentioned my provider is Verizon and not sure what is actually supposed to be in those boxes

according to the step by step wizard

Verizon should have given you the info to set up the account or given you a web address to find whats needed.

I've had a quick look and, as your email address suggests (*****@verizon.net), the server names listed are incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net.

You should use these in the wizard.
