AW: How to config the IERenderer that it use the -roam option
Have the user changed the cache path try to use the user path. Is there an user cache path on the same drive where Pmail / IERenderer is runing and and only the drive letter does not match, try to use this cache path. Is this cache path not available or not read/write enabled go on like it is. (tries to retrieve the APPDATA path of the active user....)
Might work ...

It is possible to config the IERenderer that it use the ImageCache file that you choose in the config menu when the drive letter does not match. I have this problem, because I have users, who use Pmail on an USB-Memory stick with the -roam - option and this works not for the IERenderer. It makes trouble when you safe files on a guest - PC.

I'm sorry, but the algorithm used works like follows: If the configured path isn't available or not read/write enabled it tries to retrieve the APPDATA path of the active user on the current machine via the respective standard Windows API. If the required subdirectories in there (..Pegasus Mail\ImageCache\[UserName]\) cannot be created for whatever reason it retrieves the TEMP path in a similar manner for creating them. IOW: If all this doesn't work on a machine there must be some other problem involved, I cannot preempt every condition on every system on earth ...

BTW: Can you please elaborate what makes trouble exactly means? And who is you saving files?

>>...and who is you saving files?<<

Example for this:

If the Pmail mailbox is located: "C:\PMAIL\MAIL\PEGGY" then I would choose "C:\PMAIL\MAIL\PEGGY\IERTEMP\" for the Peggy -IERenderer "ImageCache" directory.

Then you have all the Pmail-files on your portable device and you can use it on every PC.

(if the -roam option would work for all)

>>.....what makes trouble exactly means?<<

When I use an other PC for example from a friend or a customer during a visit and I will check my mails with Pmail on a removable device and with his PC and I would use the IERenderer Pmail create automatically folders and files on the foreign PC system.

1. When I´m going away the Pmail IERenderer chache files are not on my removable device and I can not use them any more.

2. I know a lot of people who are not pleased if they later would find files on their own PC system like: "C:\Documents and Settings\......\Pegasus Mail\ImageCache\Peggy" without they had ever self used Pmail and / or their username in not Peggy.

I have no problems with your algorithm for saving files, but it should be possible to use the -roam option for saving on the own removable device too, if only the drive letter does not match.

I think this case is not "..preempt every condition on every system on earth ..." or do you think so?

These files aren't supposed to go into a mailbox directory, after all they are only temporary files, and there's no need to carry them around at all. What if storing capacity is exceeded only because of these files?

I wouldn't allow someone to plug in a USB stick for security reasons anyway, you can always use a web interface (or a mobile "phone").
1. When I´m going away the Pmail IERenderer chache files are not on my removable device and I can not use them any more.
They aren't required for anything, caching is just for convenience (or saving bandwidth).
2. I know a lot of people who are not pleased if they later would find files on their own PC system like: "C:\Documents and Settings\......\Pegasus Mail\ImageCache\Peggy" without they had ever self used Pmail and / or their username in not Peggy.
So they shouldn't allow you to plug in a USB drive in the first place. Aside from this: If setting "Cache-days" to zero the cache is automatically wiped when Pegasus Mail shuts down (except for the subdirectories and the button bitmap, but I could easily implement this as well - PS: I like this idea ...).

If asking a distinct question you get a distinct answer, if not I can only make guesses ...

>>...if storing capacity is exceeded only because of these files?<<

That is then a user problem and this problem comes in the most cases I knew and I have seen from big mail attachments.

>>I wouldn't allow someone to plug in a USB stick for security ...<<

That is your personal decision, I can understand it.

>>They aren't required for anything...<<

Using to watch mails offline?

>>So they shouldn't allow you to plug in a USB drive ...<<

I think you can not decide for other people. I install for some other people PC ( In business use, too) and I have admin - rights on their systems, has to set passwords for accounts...). I install them generally Pmail as mail programm (The users like it) and I always test updates for my self before install them on their systems.(stability is for them very important) I`m thinking about to install them the IE - Renderer as addon. (At the moment I has generally removed IERender) I am testing it at the moment for my self and I know the wishes from the user I support.

So my question is easy if it is / would be possible that IERenderer support the -roam option from Pmail or not.

If you think you would not support the -roam option from Pmail it is your personal decision and I had to notice it.

But you don't need any pre-cached files for reading them ...

You can't exactly say it doesn't, it only doesn't do it the way you seem to prefer. But: Doesn't Pegasus Mail store its temporary files in the local user's TEMP file location as well? And if so, wouldn't cache removal on termination then work almost exactly the same way (I just added this feature to apply when Cache-days is set to zero)? One problem is that I can't exactly determine if Pegasus Mail actually works in roaming mode or not since I regard writing the cached files to the mailbox a bad idea (for data safety and performance issues): The command line parameter may be misleading, an invalid file path might be misleading as well.

I know it.

Yes, but only when set to zero.

>>The command line parameter may be misleading, an invalid file path might be misleading as well.<<

What about when the cache algorithm used works like this:

Use everything like it it.

(only a suggestion)
