If I understand your query correctly, one solution is to use Pstart (freeware), <http://www.pegtop.de/start/>, to launch Pegasus Mail installed on a USB Drive.  On the command line add -roam after winpm-32.exe

Could you please give me a detailed explaination or instruction about this following sentence:

You need to include - roam on the commandline starting winpm-32 by adding to your normal command starting winpm-32.exe on run or start menu or create icon on USB drive and modify the properties of the icon. See Help, commandline options: You may also want to add -i admin or similar and -a so any netware on the host machine system will be ignored if running netware.

Installer defaults with all blocks checked include - roam and - a

-ROAM  This option tells Pegasus Mail that it should ignore the configured drive letter when locating user mailboxes and mail files, and should instead use the drive letter of the drive from which WINPM-32.EXE was run. If Pegasus Mail and your mailbox directories are located on the same physical drive, you should always use this option. -ROAM greatly simplifies running the program on Peer-to-Peer and non-NetWare networks, because it allows the same copy of the program tobe run no matter what drive letter mappings exist on the particular workstation where it runs. This switch also allows you to install a complete, working copy of Pegasus Mail, complete with mailboxes, onto a memory stick, and to use that memory stick in any computer where it is subsequently plugged. You must not use this switch if Pegasus Mail and your mailbox directories cannot be accessed using the same drive letter. This switch is ignored and has no effect in either Novell NetWare operating mode.

If you used an icon on the thumb drive it probably should have worked on you laptop without alteration.

Can you post a copy of the command line you are using?

-------I installed PM in my office. Since now I could not open it and now it is weekend, I have to open PM in my laptop (local version which I used to use) to guess. In its help the user name is "admin". Could this username be the same with the portable version? I am not sure.

Add your username to the command line thus -I <username>

----------I do not understand exactly what do yo mean. Do you mean I need to run the winpm-32-roam-admin in the "E:"after " cd programs"? or could me give me a very detailed instruction what to do?

Thank you!

It is not clear to me as to what you are trying to do.

Your initial questions appear to relate to using Pmail on a thumb drive, however your last request appears to relate to starting Pmail installed on a laptop.

The username "admin" is set in any default installation regardless of where the program is installed.

A typical shortcut command line for a desktop/laptop installation would be C:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe -A -MS -I Admin

A typical USB shortcut command line would be E:\Pmail\Programs\winpm-32.exe -ROAM -MS -I Admin

As I indicated last time it would be helpful to know what you are trying to do.

What sort of installation are you talking about, i.e. thumb drive or fixed installation on pc or laptop and did it once work and now does not.

As I indicated previously also, your username is your mailbox name and can be found by looking at Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info.

By default it is Admin.

the answer:       it is   thumb drive.

Yet it does not work when I tried the thumb via my laptop.

The fact that it works on one machine but not another suggests that the Roam option is not enabled.

Sometimes you will be lucky when the drive letter designated in the Pmail installation coincides with the drive letter assigned to the thumb drive when it it is first connected.

How are you starting Pmail, presumably via a shortcut on the thumb drive.

That short cut must incorporate -ROAM in the command line.

Appending -I Admin shouldn't do any harm but in fact it is not necessary in a single user situation.

Normally if you are being asked for a username it means that something is amiss with the configuration files, pmail.cfg in the Programs Directory or pmail.usr in the mail directory.

The fact that it works on other machines suggests that is not the case here.

As a first step can you confirm that it is functional by trying it on one or two other machines before we look further.
