Thanks again Thomas.  I will have a go when I get home and can log in to work again.  I found PMGATE.sys in my PMAIL program files dir I assume thatis the one to change.  The do not put the Pegasus program in "Program Files" is suddenly making loads more sense!

I have found it all now I am logged in at home.  Thanks again.

Hi,

I work for a small private company in Great Britain which has recently been bought by another private company in the US.  I am trying to change our email addresses to show the new email address with the US company but despite having changed my electronic email address in Pegasus in both Internet options and Options->outgoing mail->sending mail from the old url to the new on emails sent are still showing at from the old URL when I send them to an external test account.  Is there something I need to change in Mercury to make emails look like they are coming from my new address.

I would like to do some further testing this evening so we can go live with our new addresses next week.

May be there is something in section [rewrite] in Mercury.ini?

Did you talk to your provider? Perhaps he does a rewrite or has to know about your new domainadress. For shure it can't be the same domain than the US company.

bye   Olaf

Thganks Olaf,

I have had a look but there does not seem to be anything in the rewrite section that could be causing my problem.    Our ISP provides a smarthost we use to send via so I suppose it is possible that they are changing the from address.  I plan to do a test sending via our new owner's service provider tonight so that will show us if the problem is with our ISP changing the from address.

Ah at last I have engaged brain and got my copy of Pegasus talking to Mercury Via SMTP and now my emails appear to  come from my new address BINGO.  That bit is fixed.

BINGO.  That bit is fixed.

If you were sending via the Mercury queue then the  e-mail address is being created by a line in the MERCURY UDG.  You can change this and also create one that uses the "Reply To:" address so that you can send using different e-mail addresses.

               Gateway name : [MERCURY        ]
            *New mail path :
    Is a program to run? :  N
     *New mail search mask :
       *Outgoing mail path :  \\SERVER\VOLUME\DIRECTORY
    *Run for outgoing mail :
          *Filename format :  ~d~d.PMX
   Run to validate address :
     *Reply address format :  "~P" <~L~L~8@host.domain>
   Accepts SMTP addresses? :  Y
Simple message headers? :  'Glue' headers
     UUEncode attachments? :  Y
           Burst messages? :  N    Gateway processes BCC? : N
       Strip gateway name? :  Y
Force all mail through? :  N

The ~p is the personal name, ~8 the account name.  You can
also use ~p<~r> and the Reply To: address will be used.

Thanks for that Thomas.

I will see if I can make that work.  Is a manual edit to the PMGATE.SYS file the way to do this?

Nope, it's binary.  You use the 16 bit MSDOS program pconfig.exe to edit the file.  If you are running a 64 bit system you need to get something like DOSBox.
