The Pegasus Mail Thousand -> Update when?
Did you forget about the v4.62 update (September 2011), maybe? And there's currently another interim update (v4.63) in preparation, see David's news from November, 30th ...
Thanks for the heads-up re David's Nov. 30 news. The main page I check only shows a Aug. 2010  Dev News Page Update as being new (under NewsFlashes!) and the "updated November 30" below does not mention the year. So it wasn't obvious that anything new was added since Sept. 2011 with the 4.62 release.

While I appreciate "maintenance releases that fix numerous small problems" I keep hoping to see v5.

It''s Xmas season again and time to donate to 'The Pegasus Mail Thousand'. But this year I'm wondering what future for Pmail is in the works? The last post from D. Harris on the Pmail website was January 23rd 2010. I'm wondering if another injection of $$ to keep Pegasus Mail alive and **GROWING** is a worthwhile investment?  "Grow or die"

So, is there something in the works that's worth continuing to support?

Yes, David's Pegasus Mail and Mercury Developer News November 30th posting is much appreciated, and then there was David's Development Weblog  "WinPMail v4.62 and beyond" posting of June 15th of this year:

"On a slightly gloomier note, looming over all of this is the shadow of

considerable financial difficulty... *sigh*.  I cannot deny that the last

couple of years have been financially disastrous in almost every way,

and it's a constant struggle to find ways of making ends meet.  I'll be

sending out a plea to the Pegasus Mail Thousand soon and hope that as

many as people as possible will be able to respond so I can carry on

doing what I've now been doing for over 21 years."

Although I was one of the original signers-on to The Thousand, I never hear anything at all back from that list.  The email address I used for my original signup is long since defunct, but I've never found a way to update it.  Although I do appreciate that David has considerably more important things to do than to nudge the list, those of us out here in the provinces are left quite in the dark about how things are going in that respect.

I, too, would be happy to remember PMail development for the Christmas season, but it's harder when I just don't know what's going on.  I've missed, for years now, what used to be David's thoughtful annual Christmas / Holiday season message, and I wish that it still were possible for him to send one out, whether one of cheer or gloom, or of "mixed reviews".  Any prospect of a status update - ?

I'm sorry, Chris, but I'm afraid the only thing you can do is contact David personally: No matter what we (the testers) do I believe someone like you would leave a much more important impression on him with regard to this (I assume the status update refers to his financial resources?).

Point taken, and yes, "status" should be taken with respect to the financial resources available to him for continuing development (including, of course, his living expenses).  I feel free to raise the issue because David himself has raised it from time to time.

What would be your recommendation re. how to go about this -- email, fax, letter (I'm one of those old school types who actually is capable of writing and posting a physical letter).  When I did speak with David on the phone a couple of times some years ago, from (then) Connecticut to New Zealand, about one thing or another, I found him to be most gracious and personable.  Somehow, though, that would seem kind of like rudely barging in at this time.

I am aware, from a side comment or two made in one of these fora a few years ago, that "The Thousand" never really reached that level, and that the actual participation rate has been even lower, to no great surprise.  (Should be a matter of some mild embarassment, though, to those who signed up but who "never quite get around to it" . . . ).

The original Thousand request was for $50US / annum, but I for one would appreciate knowing what the actual number needs to be now, all things considered.  Again, if you or Thomas or anyone else could offer a second opinion re. how to communicate, I will do so (and not merely talk about doing so . . . ).

Please contact me via email, IERenderer's About ... dialog (for one) provides a link if you don't know any other way (don't use the forum's "private message", I never get notified about my inbox status for unknown reasons).
