Thanks again, and this just FYI, in case it is useful.  Somehow (I can't remember how or, even, really, why) I had configured and was running pmail (version 4.52?) from the Vista "Program Files\PMail" directory.  I know this is so, because the shortcuts I ran it from refer to this location.  It's now back in the default location.

After using pmail for decades and trying update to 4.6.2, Each time I run winpm, l I get the "Welcome to Pegasus" window asking me to select either one user, multiple users, or network.  I have tried all options entering the path to my mailboxes.  It then shows a window correctly listing my users.  This window has options for New, Delete, Change, Help, and Close.  Upon confirming the list is correct list, I click "Close".  The window disappears pmail does not start.  Upon re-opening winpm, I get the some Welcome window. 

 I have also tried creating a new mailbox in the default location.

Running Vista Home Premium

No experience with Vista OS but do use win7-64 and most all earlier versions of MSWindows and WinPMail. There seems to be only a few who have ever used Vista among winpm-32 users.

Where was the  program installed? Was it to the default c:\pmail location? What command line or icon properties on desktop icon are you using? Are you using a Start menu entry? What command line is it using?

Do you have any saved files like pmail.cfg or  pmail.ini files from the last recent run of win pmm-32 or backup files. Was the old install to the default c:\pmail location also?

Have you tried starting winpm-32 from command prompt and using winpm-32 -a -roam or with winpm-32 -a -roam -i admin

It would be really helpful to know exactly how you ran the v4.62 installer and what blocks were checked.

 I allowed the install to create a new shortcut, which identifies the program location (old and new were the same):

"C:\Program Files\PMAIL\Programs\WINPM-32.EXE" -roam -A

 I have now also tried this from command prompt - same result.

I first tried the install "update" option and then tried the  "new install" option (it seemed to remember the "program files" path and I left it that way.)

 I chose:

NO start menu shortcuts

YES enable mailto:

YES create desktop shortcut

 I THINK BOTH OPTIONS (FIRST NO, THEN YES) pre-configure mailbox (but I'm not sure)

YES roaming (though I didn't read the implications)

 I have access to a recent (week or two old) pmail.cfg file

Installed to the wrong, won't work, can't work location. It would work with XP and earlier but will not with Vista or Win7 and the MS UAC scheme. Under the later OS versions Program Files can't be used for data location, only for the executables.  WinPMail must be able to read/write//modify data in all c:\pmail and below subdirs and can not work with files marked read only at OS level.
