Wow! I just fixed it! 

Looked at my previous posting here, and it was so similar that I checked the anti-virus program, AVAST and turned off the check outgoing mail. For some reason it was blocking it.

New computer, with Windows 7 .

Pegasus 4.62

have tried to manually copy all connection and address settings from former computer running winXP and Pegasus v.51
(with both computers running side by side)

then I have tried to add a second receiving email address (so I would download from two addresses at the same isp). and change the sending address.also the same isp as formerly.

I tested this using gmail for each change.

then I started to get error messages

550 #5.1.0 Address rejected
for the gmail address

I would apreciate any help I can get with this.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | General.

Check "Create Internet session logs" 

You can post the result but munge any passwords first (Including Base64 encoded passwords). 

Read the associated Help files before starting.

Also search for "SMTP errors" on this site.

I think I am not understanding something,  I have spent some time looking at "smtp errors" and I am afraid I don't feel any wiser.  I have looked at the Help.

Try enabling one of the various SMTP authentication methods found at:
Tools > Internet Options | Sending (SMTP)
Select the SMTP definition and press Edit
Settings for sending mail (SMTP) | Security

Press Help at the above dialog and/or see the Internode Online Guide at:

An obvious question but nevertheless, is the Gmail address a valid address?

On your Tools /Internet/Receiving POP3 

  Edit your Receiving POP3 connection info for GMail should be:  TCP/IP Port 995

  On Security tab:

   Via Direct SSL Checked

   Enable Certificate Verification Checked

the gmail address that I am sending to is my own gmail account. so I know that it is working. I am not trying to receive mail from gmail.  Pegasus is receiving mail fine.

when I look at the internode setup page (as suggested by Guy) they advise that security settings do not need to be used for standard email configuration. So I don't want to muck with that. 

Receiving mail works fine,  it is problems with sending mail, 

I think it is to do with me adding a second receiving email address (so I would download from two addresses at the same isp). and change the sending address.also the same isp as formerly.

Perhaps I should uninstall and start again?
