Small but annoying problem with Pegasus 4.63

OK ... you prefer classic mode for viewing. I had preview mode. Changed all to your choices  (classic mode, alias in addresslines and doubleclick on addressbook entrance opens maileditor) and can't reproduce your falt at all! :-(((
For what it's worth, I can replicate the "any double-clicked address opens a new message editor window" behavior by doing the following:P.S. One thing about my setup: It's not what you'd call "standard"...Many years ago, on one of the upgrade cycles (maybe from 2.x to 3.x), the way address book windows opened got changed, and although the previous functionality kept working as long as the previously-opened address book was never closed, closing the old-style address book caused that look to be gone for good...as a result, my "desktop.pm0" file has remained unchanged for...oh, at least 8 years.
I assume that's the problem. I don't even remember the old addressbook style ... must have been PM2x to PM3x at maximum! I can't change to that old style in any Pegasus im just working on. I can't believe David will fix this problem ... he won't be able to reproduce and test it. "Upgrade" to "new" (oops - since about 10 years :-) style of addressbook - sorry. That problem will be fixed that way.

So, I just updated from 4.61 to 4.63, and I've found a small problem related to double-clicking address book entries.

Just double-clicking an address will open the email editor with that address in the "To:" field, as expected.  Unfortunately, double-clicking another address in the address book does not then update the "To:" field correctly- instead of appending ", <new address>" to the end of the "To:" field, it prepends ", <new address>".

Thus, if I double click "Jim Smith" and then "John Doe", instead of getting "Jim Smith, John Doe", I get ", John DoeJim Smith".

I'm guessing this is something that got introduced in 4.63, since I know this worked as expected in 4.61, and although I never tried 4.62, I can't imagine that this wouldn't have been noticed and fixed if it had been a 4.62 problem.

Obviously, this problem doesn't merit its own release, but I wanted to point it out before 5.0 gets to code freeze.

Hello ccdalla,
Thus, if I double click "Jim Smith" and then "John Doe", instead of getting "Jim Smith, John Doe", I get ", John DoeJim Smith".
I don't know what the original intension is, but here I can't reproduce the behaviour described: Every double click opens its own new message, e. g. for "Jim Smith" _and_ for "John Doe".
Using PM 4.63 after 4.62 after 4.61 and WinXP.

Best regards
Wolfgang

Can't reproduce that at all. Double clicking two addresses in an addressbook allways opens two new mail editors.

Or did you double click a address in addressbook and than choosed the addressbook icon at end of addressline. In upcoming dialogbox you may add other mailaddresses from addressbook by double clicking or selecting and pressing the appropriate buttom (in english named ADD I assume). But even that way the addresses are appended allways.

Could you configure the addressbook(s) to insert emailaddresses instead of names - please? After that - remains the behavior the same like you described? If not, there is a problem with the naming of one of your addresses or may be the addressbook needs to be reindexed.

Olaf, I can confirm that there has been a change although I couldn't duplicate this issue either, but you'll see that after creating a new message by double-clicking an email address in the header section of the message reader (e.g.) the caret (insertion point for additional text) in the address line is positioned in front of the first address character. The reason for this change was a very weird phenomenon in the previous version of Pegasus Mail where (rather long) reply addresses (like when replying to a notification message from this forum) seemed to be truncated at the left while they actually were only scrolled beyond the left edge of the edit control. David Harris tried to apply the caret positioning as an attempt to fix this issue to no avail. He finally figured out that simply changing the order of some lines of code (believe it or not!) fixed it and (we all) forgot to restore the original caret positioning. If someone can provide an exact way of duplicating the issue of the original poster I'll make a suggestion to David Harris for restoring the previous caret positioning - although this is certainly a very low priority issue (if even inconvenient), IMO.

I agree that this is a low priority issue, since the workaround is pretty easy, but once the next release starts getting closer, it should be an easy fix, so I figured I'd point it out.

Okay, so here's two ways I can replicate this...they're both essentially the same, but:

Method 1 (if the message editor window is sized such that it obscures all of the addresses in the address book when the message editor opens):

1: Double-click on an address in my "main" address book.  The message editor opens in the foreground in a window that almost completely obscures the address book window and gets focus, with the double-clicked address in the "To:" field, and the cursor at the beginning of the "To:" field.

2: Click on the title bar of my "main" address book.  This brings the address book back to the foreground after it was covered up by the message editor window.

3: Double-click on a second address in my "main" address book.  The address book retains focus, and the "To:" field in the message editor is updated such that the second address, preceded by a comma, is prepended to the address that was already in the "To:" field of the message editor.

Method 2 (if addresses in the address book are visible after the message editor opens):

1: Double-click on an address in my "main" address book.  The message editor opens in the foreground and gets focus, with the double-clicked address in the "To:" field, and the cursor at the beginning of the "To:" field.

2: Double-click on a second address in my "main" address book.  The address book regains focus, and the "To:" field in the message editor is updated such that the second address, preceded by a comma, is prepended to the address that was already in the "To:" field of the message editor.

For what it's worth, I can replicate the "any double-clicked address opens a new message editor window" behavior by doing the following:

1: Double-click on an address in my "main" address book.  The message editor opens in the foreground and gets focus, with the double-clicked address in the "To:" field, and the cursor at the beginning of the "To:" field.

2: Click on either my inbox window or my folders window (the only two windows that are normally open other than my address book in my setup).  The clicked window comes to the foreground and gets focus.

3: Double-click on an address in my "main" address book (or click the title bar of the address book, then double-click an address).  A new message editor window opens in the foreground as in step 1.

In my email above, you can see how I achieved the problem.  You're right about the functionality that comes up after clicking the book icon to the right of the "To:" field: addresses added from that window get appended correctly.

FWIW, I actually like the fact that the aliases from the address book are what show up in the "To:", "Cc:", and "Bcc:" fields- the aliases are generally a lot shorter than actual email addresses, so there's a better chance that I can always see everyone that I'm trying to reach with a particular message.

Doesn't happen here: If I double-click another address book address it creates a new additional message editor instead of adding the address to the existing one. There must be something else involved.

the same here - only one address per mail.
