Setting up Pegasus for use with an iPad

[You know you have to advice that ruleset in the download configuration of your POP3 configuration?]

Yes I picked up on that from reading another post somewhere.

The thing that appeared to make it all work was unclicking "Leave on server" and clicking on "Delete on server" under download controls.

I have to wait another few days to see whether old emails start dropping off at the end of 14 days.

On to the next problem of URL access from Pegasus but I'll open another thread for that.

I want to set up my email so that Pegasus will download all unread email to my PC but leaving everything on the ISP's server. I want to be able to download any/all email to my ipad for remote access and I need this to work even if I have left my home PC turned on with Pegasus running. That way, if I am out but waiting for an urgent reply, I can still get it.

So I have created a rule that will delete all email left on server after 7 days but it doesn't appear to delete any email older than the 7 days.At the moment the mail is just accumulating and I have to manually delete it using Webmail.

The rule was created under Tools>mail filtering rules>Create edit POP3 rule set. Then this rule has been selected to run under Receiving (POP3)>POP3 mail download definitions>Edit>Download Controls>Server-side mail filtering (uses POP3 filtering rule set) where I have selected my "Del on Server after 1 week" rule.

I am presuming that the 7 day rule would kick in when Pegasus on the PC checks for new mail i.e. it would download the unread mail but also leave it on the server (this seems to work okay). During the checking for (and downloading any new mail) the rule would also delete anything still at the ISP older than 7 days but it doesn't.

The iPad is set to download only and leave everything behind. This would give me the most useful way to have access to email anywhere. If I go away on holiday I just have to extend the 7 days to a longer period. No mail gets missed and it wouldn't clog the ISP.

I have a feeling that I am not using the POP3 rule set correctly but am at a loss as to how to apply it differently.

Has anybody made this work ?

Here's my age.pnp that will delete all mail older than 14 days and download all mail that is not older than 14 days.

------------------------------------------------------ age.pnp ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Age
If age older than 14 DeleteOnServer ""
If not age older than 15 Download ""
-------------------------------------------------------- cut here ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This should work on your system that is setup to download only unread mail and long and you are using the same mailbox with Pegasus Mail.

Sounds exactly what I want. Now where do I put it ?

None of the Rule creation stuff seems to allow me to add a small text doc into them.

I haven't had much success with rules. They mostly don't work as I would expect (and I will admit that maybe I have unreal expectations).

On closed Pegasus put it with that name and extension into your mailbox directory. PNP are POP3-Rules. Open Pegasus and you'll find it in your rules.

No - or do you (normaly) have new mails on server, which are older than 7 days?

So - if you checked in your POP3-definition Pegasus only to download new (unread) mails, it never (or most times) will try to download older mails. Uncheck this (in configuration for download) and the rule will do what you expected. Pegasus should download all mails so that the ruleset may have something to delete.

Okay, I have done that and I can see the age.pnp okay.

See reply to your next email about results.
