Ok, It's all fixed.

when I was messing around in the mail file I realized there was several files that had the name of my laptop attached to them. I just deleted them and everything is back to normal...Cautionary tale

I upgraded to the latest version 4.63 and have had nothing put trouble. (first real trouble with pmail in 15 years!). I had installed on a new laptop also and tried to use windows mesh with it and that may have been the start of the trouble. Pmail on my main computer started acting up then so I removed the pamil file from mesh but things are still messing up.

At first my new mail folder would just open up really wide and resizing it would not stick. Also the first time I clicked on a message to delete nothing would happen, I would have to do it twice. From then on I was able to delete on the first try but deleted messages would not go to the deleted messages folder. Then the new Mail folder would open up blank and I would have to close it and open it from the Folders menu, not the icon at the top. Now the New Mail in the folders list doesn't even work. Essentially Pmail has stopped working for me all together.

I am really hoping someone can help because I have years of messages in this folder that I want to keep and if my Mail file is corrupted and I have to start a new one I will be very upset.

Thanks

There are three files that control the folder and desktop.  It is possible that one or more of these files got corrupted.  I don't know anything about Windows Live Mesh so can't accuse it of being the cause but it's good that you have removed pmail from it.  The control files I mentioned are FOLSTATE.PM, HIERARCH.PM and STATE.PMJ.  They reside in your mailbox folder.  Rebuilding these files may get you back to normal.  One caveat, if you use nested Filing Trays (folders in folders) the nested structure will be lost.  No messages will be lost but all Filing Trays will be placed at the same level.  The structure of Message Folders inside of Filing Trays is unaffected.  Keep in mind that in the Pegasus Mail folder window a Filing Tray has a folder icon and a Message Folder has an envelope icon.  I know, that blows my mind too.

To rebuild these files close Pegasus Mail.  Use Windows Explorer to navigate to your mailbox folder.  Rename each of these files to something like FOLSTATE_PM.RENAMED, HIERARCH_PM.RENAMED and STATE_PMJ.RENAMED.  These files will then be recreated the next time you start Pegasus Mail.  Renaming the files keeps them available so you can restore them if the rebuild makes things worse rather than better.

Once you restart Pegasus Mail you will need to resize windows and position open windows to your liking.  I would also suggest reviewing all of the configuration settings in Tools > Options to make sure things are set to your preferences.

If you don't know where your mailbox folder resides go to Help > About Pegasus Mail and click on the Info button.  The "Home mailbox location" entry will contain the path to your mailbox folder.

If you are concerned about doing this make a full copy of you mailbox folder before proceeding (I always do).  You can restore from that if needed.

Ok here goes...

ok, it sis what you said it would do with the file system, which would be a small price to pay, but I still had the issue of the new mail folder being blank, having to close it and reopen from the file system. when I went to download mail Pmail crashed and now I can't get into the new mail folder again. It seems to be hanging on applying mail filtering rules.

I will go back to the way I had it, and await your reply.

Thanks
