The user you are attempting to 'become' does not exist

With a new default install of winpm-32 one default user is created and the name of that user is Admin and what should be entered when it asks for logon or username. By defaulr install is to c:\pmail on drive and the default user path to mailbox is c:\pmail\mail\admin location. With new default install the executable and programs go into c:\pmail\programs location and other folders (subdirs) are below that.

If you copied any files from somewhere and put on the win7 drive or tried to run winpm-32 before running the v4.63 installer you may well have mucked up everything and old paths and old settings are being found by the installer. If former machine and install had things installed to proper c:\pmail then copy to new machine in whole would be ok but then run v4.63 installer next.

On start menu or with desktop icon to start  winpm-32 in addition the -I <user>  or -I Admin must be added to start program as the user Admin. If left off then it will prompt to enter username.

I did not see a similar posting, or I could not find one on here so here goes:

I recently bought a new PC, with windows 7 64 bit (Ultimate).   I like 7 better than Vista, and have been using at work for about 5 or 6 months so I'm getting familiar with it.  However, work has 32 bit and is using a company image (so settings are a certain way and can't be changed) so my home version is different still.

Upon installing Pegasus, and I have tried 4.63, then I tried 4.61 to see if it would be different, it wasn't.   It installs just fine, I moved copies of my email boxes over to the directory, etc.  I've done this before but never in Win7x64.

No matter what else I do, Pegasus asks me for a login upon running for the first time.  I've changed the install features (there are only 5 check boxes, so not a lot of flexibility there) and I found in another posting on here to get DOS BOX and run Pconfig.  I did that, but without any noticeable changes.

I know that in multiple user mode, it asks for a logon, but this is the first time I've seen it prior to actually setting the program up.  Keep in mind this is right after the install, so I have not changed anything because I cannot get into it.  No matter what I enter (starting with my windows user name, then other possibilities such as my email address, etc) I am prompted "the user you are trying to become (username) does not exist on this system".

This is a description of the brick wall I have hit.   It's really disappointing, and why so many people like me hate microsoft is we are forced to update windows, and then we have to replace nearly everything else too. Not only inconvenient, but it can be very expensive... far more than the price of a computer and OS.  I've been using Pegasus since 1994 on windows 3.1 and would like to continue using it.  Maybe if nothing fixes this I'll have to wait on Version 5.x.  Eventually I'll rebuild my old broke computer and keep WinXP on it and run PMail from there, in time......
