Error Forwarding Messages

Ok, I think I found out (may be) what is going wrong....

I am using idw's S/MIME Front-End for email encryption.

But for few of my recipients I was unchecking the "Encrypt.." check-box for specific emails, as they had complained about some error regarding email certificate on their side (outlook express) while accessing my mail.

That's where the problem lies. If I  uncheck the "Encrypt.." box for a particular mail, I end up invariably with -

>> 0046 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>

7: Socket read error 2746.

error while sending such mails .

But if I don't uncheck Encrypt check-box, the same mails (new/reply/forward) go through properly.

How can we address this issue?

Thanks & Regards,

Rad.

Hi,

My set-up: WinXP Pro SP3 + PMail 4.63 + IERenderer 2.4.7.4

I am having trouble forwarding any mail originated from my side.
Following error is displayed while sending the mail:

Connection timeout. No response from host.

[*] Connection established to 203.199.83.244
>> 0036 220 webmail39.rediffmail.com ESMTP
<< 0022 EHLO [49.15.161.239]
>> 0030 250-webmail39.rediffmail.com

>> 0014 250 8BITMIME
<< 0034 MAIL FROM:<radhx@rediffmail.com>

>> 0008 250 ok
<< 0006 DATA
>> 0046 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>
7: Socket read error 2746.

I can forward mails which I receive but which are without any attachment(s). Received mails with attachment(s) give out same error.

I use a signature. I have tried sending mails with as well as without signature, but having same result as above.

We really need to see a session log showing the sending process and the point of failure.  You can trim sections where encoded data is being transmitted to reduce the size of the data.

How are you arriving at the Active -Z options: 33024 value shown? What is actual command line being  used to start winpm-32? Default value would be 32768 with no custom -z value used.

Are you experiencing any other tcp/ip failures or network connection failures?

Hi Thomas,

Attached are 2 session logs (in SessionLogs.zip) for the same forwarded mail -

1] TCP0002.WPM - with signature

2] TCP0003.WPM - without signature

Thanks & Regards,

Rad.

Hi Jerry,

I am using one application launcher called "sTabLauncher" for launching PMail (jpg image attached).

The command line contains only "-roam -A" parameters.

No idea how the -Z option value is derived.

Sometimes even reply/mail with attachments produces the same error, but incoming mail is working fine.

Also, I have noticed that if I copy/paste contents from other mails (HTML) or from other applications, this <CR><LF> error pops up but not always.

Thanks  & Regards,

Rad.

The first one shows no error at all, just a normal closure

One thing to look at though.  The POP3/SMTP transmissions may fail if the MTU packet size is so large that a packet is fragmented.  In many cases the receiving system router blocks the receiving servers "packets fragmented" response to the sending system using "MTU Discovery".  These oversize packets are not accepted and so are resent.  This results in a timeout, generally at the end of the message transmission but it can be anywhere in the process.  You need to reduce the MTU size. Windows defaults to a 1500 MTU and many routers and DSL connections need 1492.  You might simply want to turn off the MTU Discovery operation.

You might want to get a copy of SG TCP Optimizer that I find quite handy.  http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php  This little utility will allow you to test your MTU for maximum size without fragmentation against specific servers.  If will also make it easy to adjust the MTU.

And finally, does this computer, by chance, happen to have an NVidia NForce 4 chipset on the motherboard?  If so, many other have had this exact problem, and it turned out to be an optimization setting for the built in NIC which caused the problems with packet fragmentation. Disabling the advanced optimization capability called "checksum offload" made all the problems of sending SMTP mail via WinPMail disappear.

No, I have Intel on-board graphics chip. This is old Sony VAIO VGN-B66SP model of 2005.

I tried to forward text mails and they didn't have any issues.
Looks like something to do with HTML mails only.

The first session log shows the message was sent completely to the receiving SMTP relay host (smtp.rediffmail.com). It may have been rejected later by Yahoo but there was no failure at all with Pegasus Mail sending.
