Thnx Caisson - Somehow I missed the obvious !!

I know how I missed the obvious !

I tried to delete the Identity - while within the Identity !
You can't do that.  Must be in another Identity.

I have Pegasus running on a standalone PC Win 7.
I want to use it to pickup mail from a list of different Gmail accounts.

Trying to think of best way of setting it up.

Current Conclusion is :

- Set up different identities for each account.
- Select different Main folders for each account
- Set each identity to perform mail check when main mail address is checked (if all at once desired).

Does this sound about right for the task ?

An auxiliary question;
I have all the Copy-Self outgoing mail filtered to a single folder;
and all the mail from each sender being filter moved to their folder
but whats the best way to keep conversations with one sender together in their folder ?

You can use auto-filtering to associate addresses with folders and set up separate copy to self destinations for each identity.

One thing that get tricky here is that when you reply to messages you need to reply as the appropriate identity.  One thing that would help with this is to apply an identity to each "Main" folder.  To do this right click on the folder name in the Folder list then select the "Set default identity for entry" option.

Also, make sure the "Add 'Identity' selector" option is enabled in Tools>Options>Outgoing mail>Messages and replies.  This places an identity selector in the new message window which makes it easy to tell which identity you are creating the message as and to change it if needed.

Beware and use caution if you use signature files that include name, address or position and also use create signature file on creation. It always uses the identity you are at the time you create new message and changing identity during Editor session does not change original signature file attached. Only if Editor session is started as the proper identity does the correct signature file get attached if added on creation.

Thnx.  Good tips.

As I use Pegasus I usually reply from the received mail directly in the 'New Mail' box.
Your suggestion implies I must wait for the next startup of Pegasus
when the read mail has been automatically moved to the 'Main' folder.
Am I missing something here or doing something wrong; or is that how I must do it ??

The other problem is that if I set Pegasus to pick up all Identities at once;
I end up with a mish mash of received mail for multiple Identities in the New Mail.
So how do I force replies to go to the Identity actually received ?

Perhaps I am expecting too much or over complicating the issue ?!

Question?  I am using POP to pull my Gmail down to Pegasus.
Under what situations should I be using IMAP instead ?

My current opinion, taking your last post into account also, is that unless you want to do some very careful and tedious configuration of rules and folders and naming of them or you could do as Guy suggested and master and configure autofiltering and all available choices I firmly believe it better to establish users instead of indentities for these separate addresses. As users, each with own subdir under \mail, each user will be like a separate install except they will be sharing the program and program files and you would be running separate instances of winpm-32 using the -ms switch. Each would have all the configuration and preferences choices and each separate copy to self folder, new mail and main folder plus any other you add. Same for signature files too.  Less or almost no chance of getting things mixed up or doing reply using wrong address or reply address or signature file etc.. You would be all set for handling one or many users and some as you or some as truly other persons or entities you represent. If at some later date your machine becomes the server machine or if and when you add use of Mercury/32 you will already be set up as one or as many.

Both protocols have advantages and disadvantages but they are not exclusive at all. You can use POP or IMAP or both at the same time even pointed to different accounts. The "when to use which" is subject of another post and differs depending on user and what is available and where at the time. Use at home and office is one consideration but choices often are more limited when away or on a trip or when wanting access to mail but not even having your own computer with you but knowing you can hop right up on the internet on a borrowed machine and function using Gmail and Imap. There are instances like I do here myself when I only carry an USB drive in pocket but once  plugged into a borrowed Win machine I can do Pegasus Mail or not and use POP3 or IMAP at will with any of my accounts on GMAIL or elsewhere on other servers also.

Jerry has a good point here.  Consideration should be given to setting up separate Users instead of identities.  I use a combination of them depending an who I wish to appear to be.  At the office I have Pegasus set up as two users, one to administer the general mailbox and on for my personal mailbox.  The "General" user has around 12 identities (accounting, sales, PMail support, Mercury support, CFO, etc.).  I use filters to direct mail to different folders on which I have default identities set.  As has been mentioned, the challenge with identities is insuring that you use the correct identity when sending or replying.  Also, with identities you work with them all in the same instance of Pegasus whereas with Users you access each in its own instance of Pegasus.

"I firmly believe it better to establish users instead of identities for these separate addresses."

Jerry - that is a suggestion of some serious cause for reflection for strategy !  I am aligned along the Identity road now;
but your suggestion is making me think hard for sure !  Some of the downsides I can see are
having a bunch of Pegasus Icons/Program starts for each address & having to exit & enter the
program several times to pick up all mail for the day.
But you are right, that sure would compartmentalize & divide & conquer the problem!
And I do have this vision down the road of having my own mail Mercury server.
One of the reasons for reorganizing my email is to bypass provider standardized mail filtering/censoring;
some of which hopefully will be resolved with this process; and might be further resolved using Mercury.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
