I just got done installing mercury, after 2 domain configuration for me all goes well, create a user and alias also did not find a problem, the next step is setting on the client, I use Outlook, Outlook Express and Pegasus .... I tried setting pop3, mail, smtp, and I did not find a problem,
the problem started happening when I undergo a setting on ipad and iphone, I can receive incoming email but i get an error:
SMTP server: "smtp.mydomain.com" does not support password autentication,

The log

Connection closed with 182.4.179.179, 2 sec. elapsed.
Connection from 182.4.179.179
EHLO [182.4.179.179]
QUIT

The server just close my connection.
I am confused, what's the difference with the setting in outlook or a pegasus, it should all go smoothly

thank you to this community

We recently got a slew of people using iPhones and these are my settings under SSL MercuryS:

 - enable SSL/TSL on primary port

 - enable SSL/TSL on alternate port (we use port 587 as alternate port)

 - disable 'weak' authenticators is unchecked

 - create and load a server certificate, this is very important!  This thread (http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/35665.aspx) outlines my troubles with the server certificate and using the Loader to launch Mercury.  I suggest running Mercury as a service if possible.

Hope this helps!

Thanks glen, but that not work for me...

I've done as you said add alternate port 587, create certificate..., the results remain the same

Check the Relaying control settings at the bottom Connection Control tab in the MercuryS configuration.  I have the  "Only Authenticated SMTP connections..." option checked along with an AUTH password file which contains the authentication credentials for each authorized user.

If you use the SMTP_auth.pw file, make sure that the same password is used in the relevant accounts in the Manage Local Users dialog off Configuration.

Thank you for your answer, I already enable smtp authorization ( bfuet suggestion) and add the ip from 0.0.0.1 until 255.255.255.255 to mysmtp can access from anywhere, I also had to create the file SMTP_auth.pw (geenman suggestion) containing [username space password]  same with my Manage Local Users,  but I get an error username or password incorrect

Have you got a full session log of a failed connection?  Configuration / MercuryS, create session logs checkbox.  You will find a series of TCPxxxx.ms files in the session folder which should give more detail.

(Turn off session logging afterwards to avoid bloated log folder!)

As for the MercuryS session I would assume there is some problem with the auth file. Note that Base64 encoding can easily be decoded, so you may not want to continue using that username and password if the system is accessible from the Internet.

Not sure what the problem is with the auth file, but I would suggest that you create a new one using the default name auth.mer. Add just one username/password pair, editing it from the Mercury console, and test a SMTP connection with those user details.

Please have a look at the local domains configuration as well, and modify it according to Mercury help or the PDF manual. (A restart of Mercury will be required after that).
